Many of the readers were not part of Salafiyya in the 1990sand may not any memory or (historical) knowledge of the events from 1990’s to the middle of 2000s.

Salafiyyah (in the West) spread like wildfire acrosscommunities and Mosques. It’s adherents went from Mosque to Mosque challenging, admonishing and chastising common Muslims on their practise of Islam. Sons were advising fathers and daughters were advising mothers that they are not part of the “saved sect” and their tainted Islam needed to be rescued from the clutches of cultural clichés, disinformation and ignorant scholars. The Salafi activists marched onwards from one community to another resolutely satisfied that they were on the right path and others needed to be rescued.

Soon, they ran out of targets, so they turned on each other. When you are resolutely certain about your own belief and piety, the belief and piety of others is suspect. It started out with “sincere advice and Dawah towards pristine Islam” in private and quickly turned into refutations, super refutations in the form of elaborate and deliberated pdfs. Scholars were asked to take side and their approval of pdfs carried every greater importance.

Once the pdfs were delivered on a massive scale, it was timefor personally targeting individuals, activists, scholars and organisations. This was one of the significant factors which ripped theheart of Salafiyyah in the west.

This is a VERY important issue and NEEDS to be paid attention to URGENTLY.

Colonel Sahab's farasat (vision) cannot be denied, and what he says will most likely come to pass, because history has a way of repeating itself. The only thing all of us can do is try to limit the damage that is ultimately going to be wrought.

Ulama of the past consulted their seniors and mashaikh frequently before writing or speaking on contentious issues, and this had a tempering effect. Almost every issue we presume to champion, we deem it to be madahanat (compromising with falsehood) to back off. In the present atmosphere of fractiousness, we should all be striving to attain the reward of the hadeeth -- "I guarantee a place in the middle of Paradise for him who abandons argument even when in the right," and "he who remained silent, achieved salvation."

Again, Colonel Sahab, thank you for bringing this up.
