Wifaqul Ulama urges Muslims in Britain to attempt to sight the Moon for Ramadhan 1438 on the evening of  Saturday the 24th of June 2017. This will be the 29th of Ramadhan 1438. Moon sighting results should be reported to Wifaqul Ulama, you can notify us via our Email, Twitter, Facebook or by calling us.

British Muslims are urged to try to sight the Hilaal for Shawwal 1438 tomorrow. Like every month, all updates and announcement will be live on our Social Media channels. We would like to remind British Muslims that we make an effort to sight the Moon (and make announcement based on actual sighting) every month and not just Ramadhan and Shawwal. This is the 11th year of this monthly Moonsighting.

In this case, would sighting be accepted from SA?

If the moon set time is before sunset time in the uk, but was sighted in SA would that be acceptable (for any time, not just for this month)?

What if that was the scenario for Morocco, moon sets in uk before sunset but the Moroccan's sighted it, would the uk follow (this is if SA is not followed)?

Is optical aid of any level accepted?

According to astronomical projections, there is a chance of seeing the moon on the 29 of Ramadan, which falls on Saturday.

Not sure how authentic this claim is because only the lowest part of Saudi, near Yemen has a very very very slim chance, in fact, near impossible chance using optical aid to sight the moon.

3 1/2 to 4 degree Moon in Saudia is below the Danjon Limits:

  1. 7 degrees by Dr Yallop
  2. 6 1/2 degrees by Shaukat Odeh
  3. 5 degrees by Shias (this study should be disregarded but I have added it as a comparison)

Never been seen in the history of mankind so no idea which Astronomers the newspaper is quoting!

Scotland have already announced eid for tommorow (Sunday) and they've got a lot of masjids on board includng brelvi ones.

Quote:

The Scottish Hilal Forum (SHF) announces Ramadan and Eid Start dates for 2017, under the supervision of Ulama and in line with agreed Islamic criteria and including data from Her Majesty’s Nautical Almanac Office (British Observatory).

Based on this agreed criteria, Insha Allah:

The first day of Ramadan 2017/1438 AH will be on Saturday 27th of May,
Eid ul-fitr will be on Sunday the 25th of June 2017/1438AH.

The Muslim community in Scotland has faced confusion for many years regarding the starting of Ramadan and Eid, resulted in severe difficulties for students, employees and the self-employed who could not take time off from work or from educational institutions due to the wait for last minute confirmation of Eid day.

SHF, by Ulama agreeing Islamic and Scientific criteria, has been able to announce the required dates ahead of time, allowing the community to plan ahead while keeping united.

Following mosques and centers are agreed with the Scottish Hilal Forum’s criteria.

1. Minhaj ul Qur’an International – Glasgow

2. Al-Furqan Mosque – UKIM – Glasgow

3. Jamia Islamia – Tantallon Road – Glasgow

4. Zia-ul-Qur’an – Glasgow

5. Iqra Learning Centre (ILC) – Glasgow

6. Hamilton Islamic Centre – Hamilton – South Lanarakshire

7. Airdrie Islamic Centre – Airdrie – North Lanarakshire

8. Coatbridge Islamic Centre – Coatbridge – North Lanarakshire

9. Dar-ul-Qur’an – Renfrew

10. Muslim Association of Britian (MAB) – Glasgow

11. Somali Muslim Community (SMC) – Glasgow

12. Salahuddin Mosque and Islamic Centre
