I do need this thread.

This is the type of activity where we can feel live connection with Allah SWT.

There have been great exegeses, Tafaseer, by the great Mufassireen of past but there are some things that were meant for our times only.

Hence Tafseer will remain a lively activity for all times.

The messages does not change with time but the layers open up slowly with time.

Allah SWT says that there is a time appointed for everything.

Is it not exciting that Allah SWT has reserved somethings for our times, for us?

Fakhrauddin Razi RA was puzzled that the body of Firaun is not to be seen even after so many centuries. But Allah SWT brought the body of Tutankhaman, Ramses II, only about a hundred years ago.

Some things can only be understood in the scientific era.

And hence we should explore these bounties of Allah SWT.

One day my beloved Shaikh HA used the Qur'anic words, in Urdu, to express some point. That is when a single statement taught us a lot of things.

Words written do not convey the whole message. Spoke word is better. After all the book is called the Qur'an - that was spoken!

I suppose best Tafseer will be the one that is done by a man of Allah SWT. Sadly we can not request such things before our Elders.

My next choice would be a Tafseer on video by Mufti Abdus Sadiq Desai Sahab - a man who is inclined towards struggle. I doubt that we'll get our wishes in this case too.

Does it ring a bell if I write his name as Mufti AS Desai of South Africa?

Yes it does. But you are right that you will hardly get your wish fulfilled in this case too because he is strictly against videography, plus he remains engrossed in work 20 hours a day, 7 days a week (as he told me in reply to an email).

Salaam

Qur'aan is "recited"
Spoken is different. Many reasons a person shouldn't reply with Quraan verses treated as speech.

His Bayans are given every Thursday (I think) for the past 30 years (or so) and I have been listening for a long time, long before he got arrested and all the fanboys and fangirls. He did used to give a semi-Tafseer Bayans in 1990s.

Thank you sister for the rejoinder. I too fear that my wish might not be granted because of his temper. However please do see the post by Khan Sahab below.

Surah Rahman

In modern times it is difficult for me to bring forth a better person than late Dr Israr Ahmed when it comes to explaining Qur'an.

Here he explains first four Verses of Surah Rahman.

Cooling Down Threads

Complete Tafseer of Surah Baqrah took about ten hours in late Dr Israr Ahmed's videos.

That is lot of time and lot of energy and effort and ability must have gone into it.

I started the present threat because of the following reason. If you want to talk about Islam and Muslims you should have a basic understanding of it. This includes some level of comfort with Tafseer.

I wanted to acquire that.

Now I realize that this was over ambitious of me.

Hence I would like to cool down the present thread.

I am not decommissioning it.

It simply means that I'll post here only if it is utmost essential to clarify some issue.

Other brothers and sisters can make use of this thread for the same purpose.

As salamu alaykum,

An interesting section of text from the English translation of Mufti Shafi Usmani's tafseer, clearly aimed at a Western audience. I was pleasantly surprised and amused by the pop culture reference. A fantastic tafseer nonetheless.
