There are so many people I personally know who quote the hadeeth Allah likes odd numbers. So in accordance to that they use this in everyday life like for eg when they cook they put either 3 or 5 or 7 tomatoes or onions or masalas, then when distributing snacks they giv in odd numbers to ppl at home similarly when they gift someone something they giv either one or three. When I tell them odd numbers hav nothing to do in real life they quote this hadeeth.. can u please enlighten me on this.. I spoke to a mufti abt this and he said let sunnat be sunnat and dont bring it to the extent of farz ... Because when these ppl do it they do it to the extent of making ppl believe that it HAS to be done... so can I get a detailed answeer on this ....

The Mufti has spoken and his right. What more needs to be said. Yes its a hadeeth but its not farz if you do as Sunnah then fine but don't make it a farz.

Honestly speaking, nothing more needs to be said when a mufti (who is maulana umar palanpuris grandson) has already commented on it . But these people subconsiously are making it like farz saying that its head in one of the ijtemas that since Allah likes odd numbers do everything in odd numbers even if it comes to giving gifts. Although mufti sahab said liking of odd numbers has practically nothing to with thes household chores. Had it been true then Allah would have not made 2 rakats for fajr(which is an even number) or for that matter dhuhr or asr or isha but its connection is with directly Allah like for eg Allah is One ... So I need a strong reason or a hadeeth which has some connection to this ...
And if possible please make dua for my son abdullah who si 4 yrs old... The doctors say he has some fibroma in his left wrist which is called a tumour in common man language... They are yet to take second opinions for specialist doctors and if fibroma confirmed then they will need to operate it... I have been in tensions for quite sometime ....

dont the odd number request only refer to dua and prayers eg witr and whening making dua ask for 3 times..
im sure theres nothing to say it refer to everyday thing eg cooking

i have heard some one tell me to put odd number of pence when filling up my car.. eg £10.01

Well, to speak in their language, ask how many Rak'aat Fardh they read for Fajr, Zuhr, Asr and Isha. If they wake up at 6 or 8 o clock, ask them how they could do such a terrible thing when Allah likes odd numbers.

If they cannot understand the answer from the scholar, remember that your duty was to convey and you did that. guidance is in Allah's hands

2677 حدثنا عمرو الناقد وزهير بن حرب وابن أبي عمر جميعا عن سفيان واللفظ لعمرو حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة عن أبي الزناد عن الأعرج عن أبي هريرة عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال لله تسعة وتسعون اسما من حفظها دخل الجنة وإن الله وتر يحب الوتر وفي رواية ابن أبي عمر من أحصاها

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: There are ninety-nine names of Allah; he who commits them to memory would get into Paradise. Verily, Allah is Odd (He is one, and it is an odd number) and He loves odd number. And in the narration of Ibn 'Umar (the words are):" He who enumerated them." [Muslim]

In Islam, accomplishing certain tasks in odd numbers is significant. Imam Tirmidhi * mentions a Hadith in which Nabi (SAW) is reported to have said, “Certainly Allah is odd and loves that which is odd.” In Arabic, the first plural number is number three. If a person counts from number one, the very first number which denotes multitude is number three which is odd. It is for this reason, that in certain aspects of Shari'ah, when a large amount is intended, then it must be done in the least odd number which denotes multitude and that is number three.

One Saheeh Hadith states: “Verily Allah is one and He likes odd numbers”

Keeping that in mind, many people like to give that extra pound, in order to please Allah swt.

It might be on tafseer raheemi, but I don't think that's the reason. I've asked this question to the ones giving it and the only reasons they give are because that's what everyone else does and the other answer is so that its 1 better than what others give.Majority of these people go by traditions and not by religion.

Odd numbera have been mentioned in plenty Hadith as can be seen. It is used in our daily life too. In fact, even for breaking our fasts, I heard / read that it is Sunnah to eat either 1 or 3 dates when breaking the fasts and not with 2. And the reason given.for it was the chemical balance of the dates. If eaten correctly, then.the ill effects are not present like sugar etc. But if eaten incorrectly, then the dates have an adverse effect. Allahu alum.
