According to a Hadith, narrated by Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu anhu), Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: "I take oath by The Being Who has sent me with the Haqq (Truth)! The world will not come to an end until earthquakes, the descent of showers of stones (from the heaven) and disfigurement of faces (which will be transformed into apes and swines) had not taken place.' The Sahaabah radiallahu anhum said: 'When will that happen, O Rasulullah?' He replied: 'When you see women seated on saddles (i.e. riding horses and in this age, driving cars); when singing girls are to be found in profusion; when false testimony becomes rampant, and when homosexuality and lesbianism become prevalent." (Bazzaar and Tibraani)

All the evil deeds mentioned in this Hadith are widely prevalent in this age.

Is Driving of woman considered here in this Hadith?
This is a real question, I have read many Hadith about the woman amongst the Sahaba riding horses. But how correct is this statment?
The Saudi law as every one know is that woman cant drive cars. The major reason behind that she would be without a mahram and that she would be alone if any thing would happen to the car. It is there to protect the woman, or does this have something to do with it.
My wife is learning to drive by a good practicing female instructor. Is this wrong?
What do you guys out there make of this?

Some are good in the practical and some are good in the theory, Many are good in both, but you made them both disappear. (kidding)

Please post it again as I would be very interested in what others think. (Sometimes the polls let you down, you get the votes but you dont get the reasons behind it).

I voted the last option.

Jazakallah sister-in-Islam.

My intention was not to mock the women drivers but to understand the Hadith.

Poll voters, this is serious. Its not a joke.

I just wanted your thoughts.

Asslamo Allaikum,

Who is voting that women are Islamically not allowed to drive? And what is your justification?

Jazakullah Khairun

Im sure everyone knows the Saudi opinion: http://www.islam-qa.com/en/ref/45880/women%20drivers

Mufti Muhammad Kadwa:
As far as the actual act of driving is concerned, it is permissible per se for a woman to drive. However, since driving for a woman breaches a number of Shar'ee laws governing Hijaab, etc. we say that it is not permissible for her to drive. We all know the opportunities of sin, shamelessness, unnecessary emergence from the home, etc. this brings about. and Allah Ta'ala Knows Best.
http://www.askimam.org/fatwa/fatwa.php?askid=f5aacaa1766deeb79bb7c95611c9cb50

Mufti Muhammad ibn Adam:
A female is encouraged to remain within the confines of her home as much as possible. She should not come out of the home without need and necessity.

Allah Most High says:

“And stay in your houses and do not adorn yourselves like in the times of ignorance.” (Surah al-Ahzab, 33)

However, if there is a need, then it will be permissible for her to emerge outside, provided the rules of Hijab are fully observed.

As far as the driving of cars is concerned, it would be permissible, subject to the following conditions:

a) There is a genuine need. For example, the husband can not drive due to some reason or there is an emergency, etc...

b) There is no alternative.

c) There is no apparent fear of life or respect.

d) The rules of Hijab are fully observed.

e) If she is driving without the company of any of her Mahrams, then it should only be within 48 miles.

In conclusion, it is permitted for a woman to drive a car with adherence to the aforementioned conditions. However, to avoid it is always advisable; rather staying within the home (as much as possible) and not emerging outside should be practice.
And Allah Knows Best
