The Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم gave him permission and smiled. Thereupon Sayyiduna 'Umar رضي الله عنه said: "O Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم, may Allaah keep you happy all your life." Then the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: "I wonder at those women who were just with me; no sooner did they hear your voice than they immediately hid behind the curtain!" Thereupon Sayyiduna 'Umar رضي الله عنه said: "O Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم, they ought to fear you more." Then Sayyiduna 'Umar رضي الله عنه, addressing the women, said: "O you enemies of yourselves, do you fear me, and fear not the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم?" They answered: "Yes, you are harsh and strict as compared to the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم." Thereupon, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: "By Him in Whose Hand is my life, if Shaytaan would encounter you in the way, he would certainly take a different path from that of yours." (al-Bukhari and Muslim)

'Umar رضي الله عنه passed by and called out, 'O Allaah's slave, O Allaah's slave!' The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم thought he was going to come in, so he said, 'Get up and wash your faces.'" Hadrat 'Aa'isha رضي الله عنها said, "I have always feared 'Umar رضي الله عنه, as the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم revered him." (Reported by Abu Ya'la)

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayra رضي الله عنه narrates: "We accompanied the Prophet in an expedition (towards Tabook). People's provisions were almost depleted, and the situation became so critical that they (the men of the army) decided to slaughter some of their camels. Upon this, 'Umar رضي الله عنه said: 'Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم, I wish you would pool together what has been left of the provisions with the people and then invoke the blessings of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى upon them.' He (the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم) did that accordingly. Each, hence, fetched whatever provisions he had left with him. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم invoked the blessings of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى upon them (the provisions). There was such a miraculous increase in the stocks that people replenished their provisions fully. At that point, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: 'I testify that there is no god but Allaah, and that I am His Messenger. Whoever of Allaah's servants meets Him without entertaining any doubt about these (two fundamentals) would surely be admitted to Paradise.'" (al-Bukhari)

Despite the fact that Ameerul Mu'mineen 'Umar رضي الله عنه had to shoulder the burden of an entire nation, never did he forget for a second about his worship, which he regarded as the indispensable provision along his journey to Allaah سبحانه و تعالى.
