Questioner

United Kingdom

Title
Where Does Allah Live?

Question
My son is 6 years old and sometimes he asks questions like where does Allah (SWT) lives, and does Allah (SWT) look like us ( has 2 eyes, ears, nose, etc ). He sees according to his vision /environment. What is the best answer ? I have to be careful in how I answer his questions, otherwise he may see the negative side of Allah which is I want to avoid, hence I need your help.

so brothers and sisters what would you say to your little ones if you was asked these questions.

EG.. what dose Allah's house look like?
where dose Allah be? and so on.
How do you explain to 6 or younger child about Allah.?

My youngest is 4, she asks the most amazing questions too.

I always start of by telling them that Shaitan doesnt like you, thats why he is making you ask me these questions.

It is hard, but what I do is tell them to close their eyes and then ask them if they can see me. The answer is NO, then I say to them that you cant see me but you know I'm there because I love you and you are my baby, but Allah is so High up in the sky that we cant see him, but he can see all of us, even when we hide in the blanket. (These questions come at bed time). Because he loves you more than I do. Then I go on to expalin to them that they need to love Allah and his Messenger (SAW) more than they love me because they care for us so much that they taught us how to stay away from Shaitan and be good people.

I would like to add that my daughter had also been for Umrah last year and see shes the pictures of the Ka'bah etc and is reminded all the time. This keeps her memories fresh, she still talks about it and is her dream to go back. When she doesnt sleep at night, I tell her to close her eyes and we go for a virtual tour of the Haram, Brilliant stuff, very imaginative mashaAllah.

It all helps.

Jazakallah.

The burden of raising a good Muslim child is indeed a challenging one, that’s why its reward is paradise, and the higher the degree in paradise you want the more the effort you should make. This duty is even more difficult to parents raising their children in the west where you have to do several jobs concerning `aqeedah (beliefs ).building the true belief of a Muslim which means linking the child (since he starts to realize) to the principles of faith, the pillars of Islam and the foundation of Shari`ah ( worship, manners, creed..)preventing the other believes around from penetrating into the pure innocent minds of our children.
Any one else who wants to add there own Point of view?

SubhanAllah. that is an absolutely amazing way to explain to a child. I think it is genius. Mashallah. I shall definitely be borrowing this method when the need arises, inshallah, if you do not mind.

(oh and your first link is broken.)

During childhood let the Qur`an be on as much as you can, read the Qur’an beside him or her and let him or her play around, hold him or her on your legs and let him or her look in the pages while you read.Let him or her be around during your prayers, and allow him or her to jump over you without shouting at him or her, let him or her listen to your du`aa’ (which is very effective), speak about Allah as something real in your life, e.g:
Allah was so generous with me today
Al-hamdu lillahthis errand was easy
I needed money and Allah gave it to me
Mention His name before and after eating
Say subhan Allah (glory be to Allah) upon seeing thunder, rain, and so on. Don’t expect a child to learn everything at one go, only what is easy to pronounce.
When you get him or her a new clothes or a new toy, instead of saying daddy got it , say Allah gave us..etc
The aim behind all of this is to entrench Allah’s existence in their talk and in their minds.

we need them to get used to the sayings of Allah’s Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in all situations, Always smile when you mention His name and insert words like compassion, mercy, love within your words, this is called conditioning, and this way the child will grow up having a very deep sense of Allah, His presence and His gifts, and your son or daughter will insensibly love Allah followed by you as a living example. By demonstrating the spiritual in your lives, a child growing up is then more able to grasp and understand the subliminal nature of things, and the presence of Allah in everyday life.Start as early as three or four years (before he start asking) to say words as Allah is so beautiful, but He doesn’t look like us, yet He sees us and hear our du`aa’, He knows our needs and feel our pains, and don't get bored of repeating these meanings in different ways, your son/daughter will get their sensation even if he or she didn’t fully understand their meaning.
The reciting of Qur’an and memorizing it (preferably in masjid) could start as early as four years, let him or her say Surat Al-Ikhlas a lot, it miraculously builds the `aqeedah

{Say: He, Allah, is One, Allah is He on Whom all depend, He begets not, nor is He begotten, And none is like Him. } ( Al-Ikhlas112)

Good points.

another thing I do is always try & make the dua's in english with a meaning that my child understands. e.g. when I change my daughters clothes, I tell her to repeat after me, "oh Allah, thank you for giving nice clothes and thank you for covering my shame", this is then followed by more questions. I then explain that shaitan likes to watch you changing, thats why we take Allahs name, shaitan doesnt like that.

Also things like opening a lid, always say Bismillah & then open, then explain to them that Allah & his angels help. Sometimes what i do is loosen the cap of bottle & pretend that I cant open it & then ask them to do it with the "bismillah". When the bottles opens, they are over joyed. The only catch here is that it wont work for them all the time. When it doesnt, you can say "may be you were naughty, Allah will not listen to bad people".

There are tons of things they will ask, and there are tons more solutions & answers. InshaAllah.

by the way, I wouldnt say children are a burden, although Allah tells us that they are a form of fitnah. For me they are a pleasure to my heart & eyes.

Patience is golden.

sorry about the spelling mistakes, i'm currently putting my kids to sleep, therefore im typing from my phone using a stylus. (its not that easy). But because of the importance of this topic, i have given this topic preference. Just hope the kids wake up as normal, otherwise!!!

This subject is very good & could never stop.

jazakallah brother.

There was get together with the revert sisters this weekend and the subject was how or what can we tell the kids about Allah and deen.
the sisters find it hard as they are new to Deen them selfs,so they wanted to hear what was the best way to explain to the kids about their new religion.
Mum there is no santa, what are you say?
