One of the issues is teaching us not to question the Aqeedah of others as the matter is dealt with by Allah himself, the other is a Fiqh issue upon which people can openly do the opposite and sin openly in Fiqh matters. But, that's just how I see it. Good question nevertheless.

This is what Imam Tahawi R.A. wrote:

"We agree with doing the prayer behind any of the People of the Qibla whether rightful or wrongful, and doing the funeral prayer over any of them when they die."

Do you see my point?

[Edit: Also where is it saying not to question the aqeedah of others?]

It's in the definition.
Quote:
Makurh tahrimi is something that the lawgiver has ordered us to refrain from through a zanni (not so categorical) evidence (i.e. khabar wahid or isolated tradition), for example: to propose marriage to a girl to whom another person already proposed; or wearing of silk-clothes by men, etc. The difference between this and haram is: the one who denies haram becomes a kafir (infidel), while a person who denies makruh tahrimi cannot be deemed as a kafir, and the punishment for doing makurh tahrimi is less than the punishment of doing a haraam thing.

Our Salah is valid, but it will be disliked on the Imam's part and possibly disliked on our part too. We would not be required to repeat our Salah as far as I know, although I have heard Ulama say that they would personally repeat their Salah if they knew the Imam had shaved his beard. Allhu Alum.

So, it is allowed but disliked, since he is not a kaafir. Hence we can pray behind an Imam from the people of the Qiblah whether rightful or wrongful.

JazakAllahu khairan for the explanation.

Below is a snap from the commentary on Aqeedah Tahawiyyah by Maulana Qari Tayyab Sahab which has made me more confused:

I remember many youngsters who were forced to shave their short beard due to dress code, like joining Police force etc. For them, that day was their most tragic day, they had cried profusely. Wanted to resign from the job, but were pursued by elders to carry on with the job, due to their financial conditions and responsibilities.

But many shaved their beard to get appreciations from haters of Rasulullah SAS.

So are you still confused? Or was it that snapshot that got you confused in the first place.

Has or Had got you confused?

Ok so there is a zanni evidence which suggests that praying behind an imam who cuts/trims his beard to less than a fist is incorrect??
If so then it's fine.

InshaAllah there is nothing to be confused about.

The Salah of the Imam is disliked by Allah, but we cannot say that it is forbidden to pray behind him, since he is a faasiq not a kaafir.

had we said that it is not permitted, then this would mean the sahabah were wrong to do so and that their Salah was invalid.

this statement of Imam Tahawi strengthens the belief in all the sahaba, otherwise objectors would most definitely make an issue of it. also giving side to the Shia.

due to this evidence, we find that even the Ahle Hadith, Salafi, Wahhabi, pray behind Barelwi since sheikh albani (rh) had also said that our prayer will be valid behind the biddati's (maybe not said using those exact words though)

I've read that it is makrooh tahrimi for a muqtadi to pray behind such an imam.

On the other hand, we see Hazrat Abdullah ibn Umer and Anas bin Maalik رضي الله عنهم praying behind Hajjaj bin Yousuf, who was also a faasiq.

^This is the reason of confusion.

Exactly sister, it is disliked but not forbidden. There is a difference in the two.

But it is close to haram and a person would become sinful.

Sister, that is the point. It's not forbidden to pray behind that imam, just disliked even if it is close to being haram.

I can imagine, I go through the same thoughts daily when I pray behind the Barelwi imam of my local masjid. I walk in, pray and walk out.
