وحينما تبسم لي

She cajoles me with her smile

تأمرني بالبسمة

And it is as though the entire world

كأنما الدنيا تماما

Is within my grasp

اصبحت في قبضتي

First in my day always

ابدأ يومي دائما

Is a kiss from my child

بقبلة من طفلتي

So that I return to my child

لأني أعود طفلا

After that kiss

بعد تلك القبلة

And when I return from work, exhausted

وحينما اعود من دوامة الوضيفة

And I enter the house I see my beloved daughter

وأدخل البيت أرى بنيتي حبيبتي

Then she throws open her arms

قد فَتَحَتْ أضرعها

"Father has come! What joy!"

بابا اتى يا فرحتي

I carry my daughter high

أحمل بنتي عاليا

In my arms like a star

بأضرعي كالنجمة

I ask her who came

اسألها من جائكم

She says Grandma

تقول جائت جدّتي

And Grandpa came

وجاء جدّي راشدٌ

And Khala (mum's sister) and Foy (dad's sister)

وخالتي وعمتي

"Slow down little one

مهلا أيا صغيرتي

Did the whole family come?"

هل جاء كل الأسرة

And when I am sleeping deeply

وحينما أغفوا تماما

After my meal

بعد أكل الكبسة

She hurries to me quickly

تجيئني مسرعة

And snatches me out of my slumber

تؤقذنى من غفوتى

"Father, I broke my toy!"

بابا كسرت لعبتي

"Father, I broke my toy!"

بابا كسرت لعبتي

And sometimes she says to me

وتارة تقول لي

"Father, I've switched my shoes

بابا نكست جزمتي

But they make me fall"

لكنني أنهرها

"Get out of my room !"

هيا اخرجي من حجرتي

يالك من مؤذية

She deafens me with her chatter

ثرثارة هيا اصمتي

She says to me, "Oh Father, Oh Father, Oh Father

تقول لي يا ابتي يا ابتي يا ابتي

Sleep with me in the room"

نغفوا معا في الغرفة

And when I carry her in mercy ???

و عندها احملها على كفو في الرحمةِ

When she tells me,

اذا بها تنذرني

"Father, you forgot my story"

بابا نسيت قصّتى

And when I begin my story with ardour

وعندها أبدأ في حكايتي للحلوةِ

A story about a wolf which

حكاية الذئب الذي

Wanted to eat the ewe

اراد أكل النعجة

She sleeps in my ???

تنام في حجري

Plants a kiss ???

فأثنيها تجاه القبلة

Then I return afterwards

ثم أعود بعدها

(And she is) In a deep slumber

مستغرقا في نومة
