Thanks for the effort to explain.

This is the part that still confuses me. You said:

"In 2017 commerical beer is not made from Grapes/dates, nevertheless it is HARAM because it is:

FUTILE (used for enjoyment) and serves no other purpose

it INTOXICATES

Thus EVEN a drop of Alcohol (which is meant for INTOXICATION) is Haram even though the source may be synthetic"

Non-alcoholic beer is not meant to intoxicate. It cannot intoxicate even if you were to drink bucket loads after bucket loads. The percentage of alcohol is that minute. Similar to ice-cream. So obviously it's not made for intoxication purposes. So why the different ruling?

1: It is made from Barley. This has also been covered.
2: The Origin is of Beer that intoxicates, their attempt the remove the alcohol still leaves alcohol present. (regardless of amount)
3: The whole idea is to attract a whole new line of customers.
4: The idea is for non drinkers to enjoy with others.
5: The idea is to be like them.
6: To be like them means to copy them, to copy them is HARAM!

No matter what technicalities one may come upon trying to prove that it is not haram, even if it doesn't intoxicate in bucket loads etc. It is still imitating the way of Non-Muslims. And Allah and His Prophet (saw) has forbidden this!

The prophet clearly stated that it is forbidden to blindly imitate non-Muslims. In one hadeeth, he over emphasized how blindly some Muslims will imitate no matter how hard it may be. The prophet (saw) said, "You will surely follow the ways, steps, or traditions of those who came before you, span by span and yard by yard (very closely) even if they entered into a lizard's hole you will enter it." The companions asked, "O prophet, you mean the Jews and Christians?" He replied, "Who else!?" [Reported by Imaam Bukhaari] In another hadeeth, he clearly prohibited imitation stating, "If one imitates another nation or people, he will be from them." [Reported by Imaam Abu-Daawud]

Prophet Muhammad (saw) says: Verily and undoubtedly, there will appear people among my followers who will drink alcohol and call it by another name and women will sing and play stringed instruments above their heads. May Allah sink them under earth! And turn them into pigs and monkeys. (Nasai, Ashriba 41; Ibn Majah, Fitan, 22)

In another hadith, Prophet Muhammad (saw) says: “From among my followers, there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks, and the use of musical instruments as lawful. And (from them), there will be some who will stay near the side of a mountain, and in the evening their shepherd will come to them with their sheep and ask them for something, but they will say to him, 'Return to us tomorrow.' Allah will destroy them during the night and will let the mountain fall on them, and Allah will transform the rest of them into monkeys and pigs and they will remain so till the Day of Resurrection” (Bukhari, Ashriba, 6; Abu Dawud, Libas, 6)

Today people are calling it Zero Alcohol even though there is some percentage of alcohol in it. Secondly, even if it was 0.000000% Alcohol; their bottles, packaging, aims and objectives are still the same and would most probably be called Haram by the Ulama anyway and they would have plenty of evidence to back them up.

We know what this is and that it is Haram

So they went and made this with a name that should be taken as an insult to us!

They have called it Budweiser PROHIBITION Brew!

Seems like all they want to do is to make non drinkers and Muslims, just like them!

Title changed and explained in OP.

Quote:
Non-alcohol beer began life in America during Prohibition. In those days the law allowed for a 0.5 percent alcohol by volume amount. Today that percentage remains the target amount for all non-alcoholic beers. When Prohibition stopped beer makers kept producing the stuff but they left a little more of the alcohol in which resulted in the creation of lighter, blander beers like Millers, Coors and Bud (in fact all the brands that dominate the market today). [/quote]
Basically anything with less than 0.5% alcohol is considered alcohol free!
Quote:
Alcoholic drinks cannot be further purified to 0.00% alcohol by volume by distillation. In fact, most drinks labeled non-alcoholic contain 0.5% ABV as it is more profitable than distilling it to 0.05% ABV often found in products sold by companies specializing in non-alcoholic drinks. Wiki

[quote]non-alcoholic beverage means a beverage which contains a maximum of 2.8 percentage by volume ethyl alcohol—(PDF) THE ALCOHOL ACT, Chapter 1, Section 3 (4.1.2001/1), paragraph 3

In the European Union, the labels of drinks containing only more than 1.2% ABV must state the actual alcoholic strength (i.e., show the word "alcohol" or the abbreviation "alc." followed by the symbol "% vol."). Source

Alcohol is a psychoactive drug and some people[who?] say that the label non-alcoholic is misleading and is a threat to recovering alcoholics (Wikipedia)

Alcohol Free wrote:
What Is Meant By Alcohol-Free?
What is meant by alcohol-free? This depends on the type of product in question but, generally, we mean a product contains no, or only small traces of, ethanol-based alcohols.
The terms used to describe drinks in which the alcohol has been extracted are controlled by government regulations.

In the UK these types of drinks are split into the following categories:

Alcohol-free: Contains 0.05% alcohol or less
De-alcoholised: Contains 0.5% alcohol or less
Low-alcohol: contains more than 0.5% but no more than 1.2%

And, of course, we have non-alcoholic drinks, ie drinks that contain no alcohol at all (0%).

In most of Europe the situation is less complicated. Drinks containing up to 0.5 per cent alcohol are classed simply as alcohol-free and they do not use the ugly word de-alcoholised.

Abu Mohammad, if you don't mind me saying, you've completely avoided the specific point I asked about and went off on a tangent talking about imitation of non-muslims. Some of our elders still today think that trousers, jeans, t-shirts, baseball caps etc. are imitation, so that aspect is subjective to say the least. Though maybe we can discuss that angle later though.

To go back to what I asked clarification about, what i've understood from yours and Muadh's posts is that such drinks which are not from grapes, dates, or barley are still HARAM because of these two factors:

1) Futile - they are consumed only for enjoyment purposes.

2) It intoxicates.

However, I pointed out that non-alcoholic drinks can't intoxicate just like ice-cream can't intoxicate even if you have bucket loads. So obviously these drinks are not made to intoxicate. Then why the different ruling?

About those Hadiths you brought up about people making alcohol halaal, you are aware aren't you that there are a few scholars who carelessly apply those Hadiths to all of us saying that Imam Abu Hanifah's fatwa was buried for the past thousand years and there was no necessity to dig out that fatwa just so that we can eat ice-cream, crisps, and chocolates when there's no shortage of other food available? So we should be careful about throwing around Hadiths like that.

Anyway please could you try looking into the specific point I'm asking about above.

Strength (ABV - Alcohol By Volume) x Volume (ml) / 1000 = Number of units
Source of calculation NHS (National Health Service UK)

So, as an example, a bottle of Beer is around 0.05% ABV:
0.05% ABV x 650ml divided by 1000 = 0.0325 of a unit

Some drinks say no alcohol due to the laws and they contain more than the above mentioned and calculated; 0.5% ABV, therefore, the calculation for those:
0.5% ABV x 650ml divided by 1000 = 0.325 of a unit
Alcohol is measured in units. Men who drink are advised to stay within 3 to 4 units in any one day. Women who drink are advised to stay within 2 to 3 units a day. And anyone who drinks is recommended to have 2 or 3 alcohol-free days a week!

If one was to drink say 50 bottles of 0.05%, his alcohol level would be 1.625 units.
If one was to drink say 50 bottles of 0.5%, his alcohol level would be 16.25 units.
Both of the above are considered Alcohol Free!
How can one not get drunk?
One may argue that it is not possible to consume so much alcholol in one go, nevertheless, if it can intoxicate in large amounts, then even a small amount is Haram according to the Hadith in relation to intoxicating drinks (not carriers or food stuff that is permitted like vinegar etc. or those generated naturally from fruits that have not been made impermissable to eat/drink like oranges)

A healthy liver clears one unit of alcohol per hour, and you only get drunk when the liver can't keep up! So even a little amount can intoxicate eventually

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) recommend that you do not drink no-alcohol or low alcohol drinks as an alternative! WHY?

Therefore, as mentioned earlier:

1) This drink contains alcohol which is deemed to be impermissible in the Qur'aan and the Sunnah

[5:90] O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah ], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful.

Ibn 'Umar (RAA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ï·º) said:"Every intoxicant is Khamr, and every intoxicant is prohibited." [Muslim]

2) Since the purpose of beer is intoxication, the small amount is also considered to be impermissible

The Messenger of Allah (ï·º) said: Every intoxicating substance is haram, and whatever intoxicates in large amounts, a handful of it is haram [Tirmidhi]

And Allah knows best

In addition to what he has explained clearly, here are figures from Budweiser

www.budweiser.com/en/our-beers/budweiser.html

5% Alcohol by Volume and here is Alcohol Anonymous

alcoholrehab.com/addiction-recovery/non-alcoholic-or-low-...

Non Alcoholic and Low Alcohol Beers Explained

Low alcohol beers are usually less than 0.5% alcohol by volume (ABV) in the United States. This means that an individual would need to drink 9 of these non alcoholic drinks to equal just one standard beer. The fact that it is almost impossible to get inebriated by drinking these beers means that they can be legally sold to minors. These are also referred to as non alcoholic beers (NA).

In places like the United Kingdom the term low alcohol beer is used differently. They use this term to refer to anything less than 1.2% ABV – so it would be technically be possible for a determined individual to reach the early stages of inebriation with this beverage. In the UK they classify anything less than 0.5% ABV as being a non alcoholic beer. The majority of these low alcohol beers are lagers, but it is also possible to find low alcohol ales as well, but these are not as popular.

BEER vs Ice-Cream

It appears that you come from Mars because on Planet Earth...

  1. BEER is for intoxication
  2. Ice-Cream is not!

That clarifies things partly.

So it's ultimately down to the percentage of alcohol and whether it can intoxicate. The other aspect of Haram you brought up, futility (enjoyment reasons), can't be relevant otherwise that would also make ice-cream, crisps, and fizzy drinks also Haram, so I'm still not sure why you mentioned it in the first place. Please do explain that part.

You also keep using the words 'made to intoxicate' or 'it's for intoxication'. Are you saying these non-alcoholic drinks are 'made to intoxicate'?

A good example of a non-alcoholic beer which is quite popular amongst Muslims is ginger beer which can have around 0.2% - 0.5% depending on the company.

Are you saying that ginger beer is actually 'made to intoxicate' or 'ginger beer is for intoxication' but ice cream is not? Please elaborate on this particular point.

Btw no need to insult and mock. Try have some Adab like Abu Mohammad has. I'm genuinely interested in knowing the exact reason why these drinks are Haram according to you guys.

Are you refering to the "Soft Drink" or the "Hard Drink"?

A soft drink (also called soda, pop, soda pop coke, soda pop, fizzy drink, mineral, or carbonated beverage) is a beverage that typically contains carbonated water, a sweetener and a flavouring. The sweetener may be sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, fruit juice, sugar substitutes (in the case of diet drinks) or some combination of these. Soft drinks may also contain caffeine, colourings, preservatives and other ingredients.

Soft drinks are called “soft” in contrast to “hard drinks” (alcoholic beverages). Small amounts of alcohol may be present in a soft drink, but the alcohol content must be less than 0.5% of the total volume if the drink is to be considered non-alcoholic. Fruit juice, tea and other such non-alcoholic beverages are technically soft drinks by this definition but are not generally referred to as such..

The contents and procedure of making a brewed drink is the same as other soft drinks. In particular, the alcohol amount is minute and is from sugar cane and not from grapes or dates. Such soft drinks are permissible. The drinks in question originate from Haram and the purpose of the original drink is to intoxicate.

However, due to the soft drink being named as “beer”, if that confuses with beer that intoxicates, then the ruling could change.

Anyways, the most popular ginger beer in the UK does not contain any alcohol.

Now one may say that these non alcohol beers are soft drinks too. But are they really?

Why aren't they advertised as soft drinks, why can't an underage person buying a can of Ginger Beer or Coke, go out and buy one of these cans?

Why do you need ID to purchase these stupid so-called Alcohol Free Beers? Maybe Alcoholic Anonymous can answer that very easily.

The aim of these beer companies is to stay in the market!
Quote:
Zero alcohol beers could offer brewers higher margins because of lower taxes and could see them muscling in on the soft drinks market

Well that's how they are seeing it, but what they don't hear and see are the whispers of Shaitan to get the Muslims to buy into this game.
