Is the Understanding of deen (religion) as simple as picking up a copy of an English translation of the Qur'aan or a book of hadeeth and interpreting it oneself as is understood by many of us today? Our beloved Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam once said as part of a longer hadeeth related by Sayyiduna Abdullah Ibn Abbas radiyallahu anhu and recorded by Imam Tirmidhi rahmatullahi alah 'He who speaks with regards to the Qur'aan according to his own opinion then let him prepare his own abode in the fire.'

We remain indebted to our pious predecessors in particular to the four Great Imams (rahmatullahi alaihim) and leaders of the authentic schools of thought, who concluded that without perfect understanding and spiritual guidance one cannot obtain true comprehesion of deen.
