I think you are correct, i.e. the question was about watching acts of shirk and kufr. The question is only indirectly related to your question, but I thought I'd post it anyway. If watching acts of shirk and kufr on television is not shirk and kufr in itself, then how can watching other programs which don't contain shirk and kufr (which are still 100000% haraam) be, in itself, shirk and kufr? I hope that is clear.

I had been taught drawing the pics of living is shirk, from the quote on
pg.no. 11
I thought respected Mufti Emran Vawda also meant the same... But
when I read further I thought he could mean it's haram and major sin but not shirk, right?

Now from what I understood, electronic imaging and making handmade drawings is
not shirk but major sin and haram. I hope my understanding is correct, right?

I think I have the same understanding, but it may be better to get confirmation from an `Aalim.

That is a good idea. Personally, I have not emailed him before. Recently, however, I contacted Mufti Ismail Moosa (Hafizahu-llaah). He is extremely accessible and sometimes replies within a few hours.

Here's respected Mufti's reply:
Quote:

Assalaamu alaykum

Your email below refers.

It is not shirk, but has some resemblance to it. In short it is a major sin but not shirk.

And Allah Ta'ala know best

Was salaam

Emraan Vawda

Alhamdulillaah, Maulana Sahib fixed the issue. It was something to do with the script initially not recognizing "https://" links.

Alhamdulillah, finished this book a few days ago. I concur with Maulana Huzaifah in that this is the best book written on the topic of tasweer (at least, the best I've read). I particularly liked the discussion on the 'illah, very clearly and intelligently explained masha'Allah.

I never thought I'd read about usul-al-fiqh and the physics of light in the same book. But this book goes that far!

JazaakAllah bhai Samah for sharing a great read.

I just wonder if there's a similar counterpart in Urdu. Perhaps you're aware that our elders (laymen) are easily deceived into believing the "mirror" argument, as they do not completely understand the technology behind digital images (edit -->) and especially videos.

As-Salaamu `Alaykum,

For those who were looking for a similar Urdu version of this book, I've posted it here. In the footnotes of page 95 of 96 in Mufti Emraan Vawda Sahib's book, the Urdu book is actually mentioned (probably as an inspiration). I just forgot to search for it and post it.

Are you talking about this page (Vol. 4, pg. 257)? It's difficult for me to understand. It seems that Hadhrat Thanvi Sahib (rahmatullaahi `alayh) is also writing about the Hurmat of visiting cinemas but I don't understand the details.
