Shaykh M Saleem Dhorat, UK, Youth conference, 2nd March 2014

A few points from Hazrat Maulana Saleem Dhorat sahibs bayaan

1. Minor sin and major sin are both to be abstained from it is only for academic purposes that they are differentiated. both are poison that lead to kufr.

2. Taqwa saves you from sin and makes you the friend of Allah.

3.Mujahida is taqwa (and vice versa) - i.e. denying your nafs from disobeying Allah.
e.g. lowering your gaze

4. Shaitan tries to push you into Allahs disobedience. If we fall into sin we should do tawbah and then we become the friends of Allah. The more we repeat this cycle (I.e. sin, tawbah, awliyah) he will have to increase the times he pushes us before we fall. eventually Shaitan will not be able to tempt us.

5. Make our hearts zakir by staying in the company of a recognized Sheikh

6. As soon as you undermine a minor sin it becomes a major sin for you.

7. Hakeem ul ummat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi RA said "Have u ever heard an intelligent person say stay away from a large scorpion but a small one is okay?" No, both are dangerous.

8. Refraining from sins major and minor, that is Taqwa.

9. A mountain is made from small stones and if we gather alot of minor sins it too will become a mountain of sins.

Shaykh Salem Hafizahullah - 21st IDA Youth Conference 2nd March 2014.

Brief summary...

Our aim in life is nothing other the earning the pleasure of Allah. If Allah is happy with us then Allah is ours. If Allah is ours then everything is ours. Until we breathe our last, keeping Allah happy, that should be our goal. If we do this then reckoning will be easy and very easy for others (special friends of Allah).

Hadith : The feet of every human will not move until 5 questions will be answered on the day of reckoning ...

If he has pleased his creator then he will long to meet his creator. In every condition he finds pleasure because he knows his creator is happy with him.

For this we need taqwa. It is a barrier between him and earning displeasure of Allah. This (displeasure) is danger for the believer. Stay away from sins. Major and minor. Minor sins exist only for academic study purposes. We should not differentiate but stay away from both. How can a believer disobey his creator? A minor sin remains a minor sin only when he doesn't look down upon it and doesn't think to himself that's its only minor and thus nothing important to worry about. If he does this then it becomes a major sin. For everyone else it remains minor except him.

Minor sins take one towards major sins and major sins takes one towards kufr. Sin is a germ, poison that leads to kufr. Taqwa is very important for us. Those who have taqwa Allah will create avenues of ease for him in everything.

Our goal of life should be to acquire the pleasure of Allah. Taqwa is a must. As soon as he does this he becomes a wali of Allah. We are lucky in that we have iman, we just need taqwa to become a wali. We have become a wali very often (without realising) but Shaytan takes us away from this. We have often vowed not to commit sin and this is when we become the wali but then we falter.

We must make firm resolution to turn our ways and not to become slave of Shaytan and nafs. When he does this he becomes wali of Allah. Then try your best to remain wali. Keep doing 'u' turn (after sinning) by taubah regularly. Taubah is to return. If you continue to struggle with Shaytan then you are constantly returning to wilaayah. If you continue this then your resolve will become stronger then slowly it will be difficult to return to sin. Slowly struggling all the time will then lead to a time when Shaytan will not be able lead you to sin. Then you will remain a wali all time.

When a person continues to swallow the bitter pill of taqwa by abstaining from sin, then then he will taste the sweetness of taqwa. He will enjoy Ibadah, sujood, tilawah etc.

Story of Bilal radiallahu anhu. He would console himself with sweetness of ahad, ahad when being tortured.

We need to swallow the pill of taqwa by exercising mujaahadah. Mujaahadah is when your nafs wants to take you towards disobedience of Allah and you remain steadfast on deen.

Remember it will be bitter initially but then it will be sweet and you will taste the sweetness of iman.

People of the past would do much and reveal little. People nowadays do little and reveal much. Allah save us.

Story of Suleman ibn Yasa and the girl who wanted him. She came into his tent. He controlled himself and started crying. She ran off.

Abstain from disobedience, if we do disobey and sin then repent immediately. This is how to get taqwa.

Create awareness of Allah within yourself. Keep connected with mashaaikh and engage in dawah and excessive zikr .

Some qoutes:

"Our aslaaf an akabireen were such they found it difficult to lift their heads from sajdah, our condition is such,we find it difficult to put our heads down in sujood"

Bilal RA used to make such Thikr of the name of Allah, AHAD AHAD whilst being tortured, he reached such a state an Haal, that he never felt the pain.
