If you want to be like a mole (or "beauty mark") distinguished amongst the human race.

Then track the trails of a generation that planned and outlined for excellence.

The generation of Zaid and Usaid and Mu'adh and Al-Bara'.
(Zayd ibn Thabit - Usaid bin Hudhair - Mu'adh bin Jabal -Al-Bara' ibn Malik)

هم نجوم في الدياجي وعلى الباغي رجوم...هم بدور قد تجلت لاتواريها الغيوم

هم نجوم في الدياجي وعلى الباغي رجوم...هم بدور قد تجلت لاتواريها الغيوم

كلهم جد وعزم كلهم غيث عميم

They were like stars in the darkness and on the unjust they were falling comets.

They are clear full moons with no clouds to disrupt visibility.

They all were "Effort" and "Striving" in character.

They were needed rain (Help) that fell on all.
 

إن أردتم أن تكونوا شامة بين الورى ..فاقتفوا آثار جيل للمعالي سطرا

إن أردتم أن تكونوا شامة بين الورى ..فاقتفوا آثار جيل للمعالي سطرا

جيل زيد وأسيد ومعاذ والبراء

 

طلقوا الدنيا وعاشوا في نواحيها مشاعل ..ملئوا الأرض سلاماً وعلوماً وفضائل

طلقوا الدنيا وعاشوا في نواحيها مشاعل ..ملئوا الأرض سلاماً وعلوماً وفضائل

وهدوا كل ضليل عن هدى الإسلام مائل

They divorced life and lived as torches of guidance on its aspects.

They filled earth with peace, science and virtues.

They guided every misguided one who, from the guidance of Islam, had lost course.

 

إن أردتم أن تكونوا شامة بين الورى ..فاقتفوا آثار جيل للمعالي سطرا

جيل زيد وأسيد ومعاذ والبراء

 

فمتى ياقوم نبني فمتى فمتى .. ما بأيدينا هدمنا فمتى فمتى

So, O my people when will we rebuild...When?...When?

What we have by our own hands destroyed...When?...When?

ليس يجدينا التباهي بخبيب والمثنى .. لن يزيل البغي عنا قولنا كنا وكنا

فمتى ياقوم نبني.. ما بأيدينا هدمنا

Boasting about Khubaib and Al-Muthanna will gain us nothing. (Khubaib bin Uday - Al-Muthanna bin Harithah)

Injustice will not be removed from us by saying "We were this...We were that".

I know it's not directly related to the topic, but I can't help taking this opportunity to share my discovery of an exceptionally well-written compilation of stories about the companions of Rasoolullah.

Title: Companions of the Prophet (2 volumes)

It's available online from Kitaabun:

I cannot recommend it highly enough!

It's perfect for reading to youngsters in schools, madrasahs and circles as the quality of the english is commendable and the style of narration engaging.

Look out for it at your local bookstores.
