Dr. Emad Hamdeh - Between Salafism and Traditionalism: The Case of Nasir al-Din al-Albani...

Halalified YT Audio

This is a very different approach and a new tone in the whole discussion. Dr. Emad is explaining the difference between Salafis & traditional followers of Madhhahib in an even for non-Muslims understandable way. No slurs, no name calling, no slogans, no insults, no shouting... Mash'Allah!

Jazakallahu khairan. He had some Shaikh Abdul Fattah Abu Ghuddah quotes in there, too.

But the gair muqallid will say "we don't follow shaykh Abdul Fattah Abu Ghuddah. We follow the prophet only".

In earlier occasions when I quoted from Shaykh Timiyyah, Bin baaz, Uthaimeen. The same reply.

That does seem to be the "get out of jail for free card" for a lot of us.

Good talk.
I suppose it can be made shorter as well as he can skip his personal observations in between for the truth speaks for itself laud and clear.

Assalamu alaikum,

I would like to share some things that have been mentioned by Islamic scholars of the classical tradition in relation to this issue.

* The Salafism that is being referred to is actually psuedo-Salafism.

* The true "Salafis" are the adherents of what's referred to as Traditional Islam, as they both respect and follow the manhaj of the actual Salaf.

* The psuedo-Salafi movement are, in practice, not ghair-mukalideen. Rather, they are extreme mukalideen as they religiously quote from and, in practice, follow a handful of selected people (Ibn Taymiyah, Ibn Wahab, Ibn Qayyim, etc.).

* Although this psuedo-Salafi movement - in practice - does taqleed of several people, it criticizes taqleed of the robust Madhaaib.

* Most of their knowledge and subsequent quotations are incomplete and out of context. Their reasoning makes no sense as well. Interaction with Islamic scholars of the classical tradition frequently ends in the confusion of the person claiming to be a Salafi.

- For example: How does the brother in the above post follow the Prophet (PBUH)? How did he get his understanding? His response makes no sense as it is well known the people claiming to be Salafi have scholars they listen to and hold in high esteem.
Nobody of this movement was present during the time of the Prophet (PBUH). They all had to have received their information from other people - past and present. Hence, they are following the knowledge and guidance of a contemporary person.

* As a result, Islamic scholars of the classical tradition have conceptualized this psuedo-Salafi movement as the Ahl az-Zahir. This is due to their superficial understanding of Islamic literature and issues.

Please note: This post is not directed at any individual. It is an analysis of a philosophy. Thus, the conceptualizations should not be seen as anything other than that.
