Shaykh-ul-Tafsir Hadhrat Maulana Abdul Hamid Sawati Passed away on 6th April 2008. May Allahسبحانه وتعالى raise his status in Jannah, Ameen

Janaza Salah took place in Gujranwala, Pakistan. His janaza was attended by over 100,000 people including Hadhrat Mufti Taqi Usmani and Maulana Zahidur Rashidi. Hadhrat was blessed with 94 years of age and he was amongst one of the great students of Hadhrat Shaykh Maulana Husaain Ahmed Madani Rahimahullah and Hadhrat Maulana Abdul Shakoor Lakhnawi Rahimahullah.

He is the founder of Nusratul Uloom (one of the biggest madaaris in Pakistan - 1954) and the younger brother of Imam of Ahlassunah Hadhrat Maulana Sarfraz Khan Safdar (Hafizahullah). He was the author of the well renowned tafsir of the Quran in Urdu (20 volumes) Ma'alimumul 'Irfan.

He was amongst the last few Ulama of the past and his loss is a great loss to the Ummah. He was in love with works of Imam Shah Waliullah Dehlwi [r.h] and his magnum opus Hujjat Allah al-Baligah in general. He taught it for 40+ years to Dora-e-Hadith students. Probably, Nusrat al-Uloom is the only madrassah in Pakistan where Hujjat Allah al-Baligah is part of the syllabus.

Most of his works revolve around the teachings of Imam Shah Waliullah [r.h]. According to him, Ummah can come out of its present situation if we take up the afkaar/ideogoly/philosophy of Shah Waliullah [r.h].

Beside Deoband, he also studied at Dar ul-Muballigeen, Lukhnow and Nazamiyah

Tabbiya College, Hyderabad Deccan. He also practiced Tib-e-Yunani [Greek Medicine], and that's why he was of the opinion that injection breaks ones fast also from medical point of view.

Beside Tafseer of the Quran in 20 volumes, some of his other works include:

1. Tashreehat Sawati ila Aisa Ghawji.
2. Muqaddamah Muslim Shareef.
3. Saadiyaat [Farsi].
4. Namaz Masnoon.
5. Mawlana Ubaidullah Sindhi [r.h] kay Uloom wa Akfaar.
6. Maqalat-e-Sawati.
7. Azkaar aur Durood Shareef kay Jamih Alfaaz.
8. Khutbaat Shaykh al-Islam Hazrat Madani [r.h].
9. Majmu al-Rasaail Shah Rafiudeen Dehlwi [r.h].

He also traslated many books, among them:

1. Fiqh al-Akbar.
2. Aqeeda al-Tahawiyah.
3. Hujjat al-Islam [from Urdu to Arabic].
4. Mubadi Tareekh al-Falsafa.
5. Altaf al-Quds.
6. Eidah al-Mumineed tarjama Daleel al-Mushrikeen.
7. Fayuuz Hussaini al-Maroof Tuhfa-e-Ibrahimi.
8. Aqeeda al-Husna.
