I agree.
The main thing we would have gained with more notice is to be able to do social distancing sooner and to begin getting and making PPE sooner. However, since Trump blew the warning time we did have, it's unlikely to have made a difference.

Anyone with a brain has known since the 1918 Spanish Flu, that it would happen again.

Our National stockpile was never made a priority, by any administration, since it's inception.
Trump only made things worse by defunding and eliminating some of the public health advisory system.
Of course, he did many other things to make it worse as well.

Unfortunately, the economy here needs to tank further. Until we can get a true idea of the spread and pervasiveness of the virus through testing.

Welcome to the new world, neo-liberal capitalism. Where lives only matter, once the number of deaths start affecting the economy.

@Wifaqul Ulama

This is unverified news but may come into headlines. Those in position of leadership may need to take heed considering the advice currently understood. I appreciate that this might be referring to autopsies etc, but this mean, the virus will still be alive and come to the surface.

COVID-19 Transmitted From Corpse

The Daily Beast

13 April 2020

The first case of a dead body transmitting the coronavirus to a medical examiner was reported by scientists in Thailand, a discovery that has prompted concerns that those handling coronavirus victims might be at risk of infection, BuzzFeed News reported on Monday. “This is the first report on COVID-19 infection and death among medical personnel in a Forensic Medicine unit,” the Journal of Forensic and Legal Medicine Study announced on Sunday. “The disinfection procedure used in operation rooms might be applied in pathology/forensic units too,” wrote Won Sriwijitalai of the RVT Medical Center in Bangkok and Viroj Wiwanitkit of Hainan Medical University in China. There is a lack of knowledge about whether corpses can infect others with the novel coronavirus, however the finding in Thailand has reaffirmed advice from health experts that people handling the bodies of those who have succumbed to the virus, including morgue and funeral home workers, should use safety precautions, according to BuzzFeed.

“Anyone coming into contact with a COVID19 positive body, alive or dead, should be using personal protective equipment to prevent exposure,” said Summer Johnson McGee, health policy expert at the University of New Haven. “Autopsies and subsequent investigations present real risks for coroners to acquire COVID-19,” McGee told BuzzFeed.

A recent video by #MuftiARM mentions that a new advisory suggests that a corpse cannot transmit the virus, therefore, please take caution and look into this further.

Deaths in England from coronavirus 15% higher than previously reported, stats office says

Reuters

14 April 2020

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's death toll from the coronavirus could run some 15% higher than the daily statistics have indicated so far, according to data that include deaths in the community published on Tuesday.

The Office for National Statistics said 6,235 people in England and Wales had died by April 3 with mentions of COVID-19 on their death certificates.

"When looking at data for England, this is 15% higher than the NHS numbers as they include all mentions of COVID-19 on the death certificate, including suspected COVID-19, as well as deaths in the community," ONS statistician Nick Stripe said.

Unlike the daily data published by the government that show only deaths in hospitals, these figures include deaths in the community, such as at nursing homes.

In London, nearly half (46.6%) of deaths registered in Week 14 involved COVID-19.

How do they know how he caught it?

Could have possibly been from a number of things or people. Some people are asymptomatic so you wouldn't even know if you got it from them.

He could have caught it any time in the last couple of weeks.

TB is an highly infectious disease and body remains infectious so due care is taken during Ghusl, burial etc so from day 1 NBC assumed TB protocols for COVID-19.

NBC guidelines assumed from the beginning that COVID-19 body is infectious so due care and precautions was always advised. NBC does not advice untrained people to bath and shroud them and Maulana Dudhwala Saheb is working with NBC.

Risk of transmission of COVID-19 from an infected body

Public Health England’s (PHE’s) Rare and Imported Pathogens Laboratory has assessed the post-mortem risk from people who have died of coronavirus (SARS-CoV2) infection and has identified little residual hazard apart from:

  • Potential droplet generation from artificial air movement during the initial care of the deceased
  • Post-mortem examination where the use of power tools take place, which is a risk for aerosol generation

It is estimated that viable virus could be present for up to 48 to 72 hours on environmental surfaces in “room air” conditions. In deceased bodies, particularly those retained at refrigeration conditions, and depending on the above factors, infectious virus may persist for longer and testing for suspected cases should be considered.

Alhumdulillah, that's great. Caution should always be taken.

It's a shame there are many service providers that are staying closed due to fears as mentioned here just after the first minute by Mufti Abdur Rahman youtu.be/mLl8hxmXiJ0

These services need to continue to operate with caution, after all, that's their line of business :(

Donald Trump Cements His Position As Worlds Biggest Muppet; Announces That US Will Stop Funding The WHO

15 April 2020

After spending most of last week blaming the World Health Organization (WHO) for its failure at handling the coronavirus outbreak and being too China centric, Donald Trump has actually followed through with his threat and instructed his administration to halt funding to the WHO.

“I am directing my administration to halt funding while a review is conducted to assess the World Health Organization’s role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus,” Mr Trump told a news conference at the White House.

“With the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have deep concerns whether America’s generosity has been put to the best use possible,” the president said.

“The WHO failed in its basic duty and it must be held accountable,” he added.

In spite of his criticism of the WHO, this news comes as a shock given just how vital the WHO is in the worlds efforts to get on top of the Covid-19 pandemic. The US is the WHO’s biggest single funder, providing $400m last year alone. If this isn’t an example of Trump’s “America first” approach to the pandemic, I don’t know what is.

News of this will surely not sit well with other world leaders and given that they’re already annoyed with Trump, this could be the final straw in their tolerance of the president.
