Is the virus airborne? I read that it was but some places wrote that it wasn’t. I found the following simple explanation

There are two ways a coronavirus can be transmitted via air.

In droplet form, the coronavirus is airborne for a few seconds after someone sneezes or coughs. It’s able to travel only a short distance before gravitational forces pull it down. Someone close enough for the virus particles to reach in that brief period can therefore be infected. So can anyone who comes into contact with virus-containing droplets that fall onto a surface. The new coronavirus can survive on surfaces for several hours; hence the importance of hand-washing after touching a surface in a public place.

An edited version of a personal message that was broadcasted privately to some people. This is in light of the message we need to send to our elders who have young children at home (as I've been mentioning)

May I request you to also copy and paste and share with loved ones.

Quote:
Assalamu’alaykum to all of my beloved friends and family

Dearest all, I wanted to write to say that you are all in my du’as and I hope we are in yours too inshaAllah.

I am sending you because you may not read it in this way elsewhere. It’s a long message but PLEASE read it all.

I thought I would mention that there are some specific precautions we must take to protect one another from Coronavirus infection. Because some of you live with your grown children & your grandchildren, please be sure that:

1. anytime anyone enters the home from outside they MUST wash their hands with soap for at least 20 seconds like the government advises. This is a MUST for adults, children & even grandparents!

2. we have to ensure that we minimise the number of times we go shopping or to the market or to other people’s homes so buy a little extra & phone people instead of visiting when you can.

3. Even going to the masjid is more of a risk for anyone (60 years old and has additional illnesses or 70 years old even without illness) so MANY world respected ‘Ulama have given the fatwa that it is better to pray at home. The risk for you catching the virus is high but the risk of you falling EXTREMELY ill from it is higher! May Allah protect you;

4. If your grandchildren are unwell, follow government guidelines. If they live in another house, don’t go there except to drop something outside. Remember, you could pass the virus from one home to another so please be careful & avoid going to a sick person’s home or else you might carry the virus with you and make your next child or grandchild sick too! If the sick child gets well but you fall seriously ill, do you want them to live with the knowledge that they harmed you??

5. Avoid public transport as much as possible. Use the family car if you have to go anywhere;

6. Remember that the local halal meat shop or grocery is just as risky (or more risky when it is crowded) so buy a little bit extra and put it in the freezer so you don’t shop too often. Don’t linger & chit chat with the shopkeeper or other people in there. You never know who might be unwell but not following advice;

7. Wash your hands before playing with ANY children ESPECIALLY if you have been out of the house. It’s sunnah to make Salam but the handshake is avoidable so avoid it as much as you can. Assalamu’alaykum is a Dua. Use it!

8. Don’t sit around all day. Move around and walk in the garden or take a short walk outdoors away from other people;

9. Pray for everyone. Your du’as are most valuable to us;

10. PLEASE do NOT ignore medical advice just because you are experienced & our elders!Even Rasulullah sallAllahu’alayhi wasallam & the sahaaba radhiAllahu ‘Anhum took precautions and also sought medicine if they were ill. If we are TRULY following their example, we will look after ourselves and ensure that we are not the cause of worry to our family & others.

You are our beloved seniors. We don’t like to remind you, tell you, worry about you, get upset with you.

Please help us to avoid upsetting you by doing exactly what we are doing. You are NOT immune. Many sahaaba were shaheed in plagues. They were the best community and they were not immune so are you better than them??

Jazakallahu khairan for reading and absorbing this message from your loved one who respectfully advises you for your good & for the good of all the family, friends & communities you are members of.

May Allah have mercy on us all, protect us & make this a time to turn to him & trust that He will only do what is best for us.

“HasbunAllahu wa ni’mal Wakeel”
Allah is sufficient for us & He is the best Protector!

With Love, Dua & Salam.
I hope to see you all again soon, fit & well and with a stronger faith & tawakkul in Allah subhanahu wata’aala for us all.

Aameen! Wassalatu Wassalamu ’alaa Rasulillah sallAllahu’alayhi wasallam.

Assalamu’alaykum.

New coronavirus can persist in air for hours and on surfaces for days: Study

(Reuters) - The highly contagious novel coronavirus that has exploded into a global pandemic can remain viable and infectious in droplets in the air for hours and on surfaces up to days, according to a new study that should offer guidance to help people avoid contracting the respiratory illness called COVID-19.

Scientists from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, attempted to mimic the virus deposited from an infected person onto everyday surfaces in a household or hospital setting, such as through coughing or touching objects.

They used a device to dispense an aerosol that duplicated the microscopic droplets created in a cough or a sneeze.

The scientists then investigated how long the virus remained infectious on these surfaces, according to the study that appeared online in the New England Journal of Medicine on Tuesday - a day in which U.S. COVID-19 cases surged past 5,200 and deaths approached 100.

The tests show that when the virus is carried by the droplets released when someone coughs or sneezes, it remains viable, or able to still infect people, in aerosols for at least three hours.

On plastic and stainless steel, viable virus could be detected after three days. On cardboard, the virus was not viable after 24 hours. On copper, it took 4 hours for the virus to become inactivated.

In terms of half-life, the research team found that it takes about 66 minutes for half the virus particles to lose function if they are in an aerosol droplet.

That means that after another hour and six minutes, three quarters of the virus particles will be essentially inactivated but 25% will still be viable.

The amount of viable virus at the end of the third hour will be down to 12.5%, according to the research led by Neeltje van Doremalen of the NIAID’s Montana facility at Rocky Mountain Laboratories.

On stainless steel, it takes 5 hours 38 minutes for half of the virus particles to become inactive. On plastic, the half-life is 6 hours 49 minutes, researchers found.

On cardboard, the half-life was about three and a half hours, but the researchers said there was a lot of variability in those results “so we advise caution” interpreting that number.

The shortest survival time was on copper, where half the virus became inactivated within 46 minutes.

US government to give citizens emergency financial aid.

White House prepares to send direct payments to Americans as part of stimulus package.

Donald Trump has dramatically stepped up the US government’s response to the coronavirus outbreak by announcing plans to send cheques directly to American citizens to give them emergency financial aid, while agreeing to purchase up to $1tn (£830bn) of corporate bonds.

The White House said it was preparing to send the payments to Americans within two weeks as part of a vast stimulus package to shore-up confidence in the world’s largest economy as the efforts to contain the disease threaten a global recession.

At a special briefing in Washington, the the US Treasury secretary, Steve Mnuchin, said: “This is stuff that needs to be done now. The president has instructed me, this is no fault to American workers, for medical reasons we’re shutting down.”

Speaking after the Republican senator, Mitt Romney, proposed sending $1,000 cheques, Mnuchin said the value of the payments would be “bigger than what’s in the press”.

The handouts are part of a wider $850bn stimulus package the Trump administration is negotiating with Congress. The bank bailout package agreed at the time of the financial crisis – known as Tarp – was worth $700bn.

The US Federal Reserve will also invest $10bn to a special purpose vehicle to provide guarantees that the central bank would purchase up to $1tn of US corporate bonds if required, aiming to smooth the financial markets after weeks of turmoil.

Mnuchin also said the White House planned to allow individual taxpayers to defer payments of up to $1m and for companies of up to $10m, in steps that could cost the government as much as $300bn.

Speaking alongside Mnuchin at the press conference, Trump said: “We’re going big. We want to get it done and have a big infusion as opposed to going through little meetings every couple of days.

“We want to go big – we want to go solid. The country’s strong. With this invisible enemy, we don’t want airlines going out of business or people not having jobs and being able to live, when they were doing OK four weeks ago.”

“We have ways of getting out money in many ways, very quickly and very actively.”

I think the government should ask banks to halt direct debit payments or not allow accounts to go overdraft.

The banks should suspend all overdraft charges.

Utility bills should be discounted.

Credit card bills should halt their interest charges (but we Muslims shouldn't have to be worrying about this)

Mortgage and rental payment should be halted as many people will not be getting paid on time or even at all.

Children from poor families who get free food at school should be given vouchers or food supplies (at least suitable for children)

People should be given some form of tax rebate.

Since the outbreak of Corona Virus:

In the countries it has mostly affected.

1. How many people have died in the accidents?
2. How many people have been killed in murders?
3. How many people have died natural deaths (without being infected by this virus)?

Is this virus another trending topic for the media? Are there any other threats more significant and real than this one? Is someone profiting from it?

It's all about the economy. It's never about what's good for the people. It never has been. Their main focus is the economy. The world economy is based on promises and lies and is very fragile. If the economy comes crashing down to the point where paper money is worthless then the house of cards that the rich and powerful have built for themselves will also come crashing down.

Whatever safeguards the government is implementing against the virus is based on its effect on the economy and not based on what is best for the health of the people. They are more than happy to sacrifice lives if it is the best strategy to protect the economy. But they may find that what they thought was the best strategy may turn out to be the worse strategy. By prioritising the economy they may find that this thing gets completely out of control to a point that law and order breaks down. When people find they have no money, no food, no healthcare, no jobs etc then they will try to take it by force. They will be left with no other choice.

If the US and other governments hand out free money it's not for the benefit of the people, it's for the benefit of the economy. The Trump administration has not all of a sudden seen the light and now wants to care for the people. They care for the fragile house of cards that they have built for their benefit.

If this virus is not brought under control then they will HAVE to implement huge changes to our economy or it will come crashing down. If they expect banks to take the fall then the banks will also come crashing down and it will be a disaster! If they expect utility companies to take the fall then they will eventually go out of business. Everything in our economy is finely tuned and any disruption along the chain will affect the whole chain in ways that we have not even predicted.

There is talk about implementing an universal basic income. This might help. But the problem I find with UBI is that it can be very easily used by governments to control the people even further. E.g, you refuse vaccinations, then no UBI. You old-school your kids, then no UBI. You refuse to go on a database, then no UBI.

It could all just be a flash in the pan. It might resolve itself and life will go back to being normal. Or it could be the opposite and life will no longer be like before.

Personally I believe the virus is airborne. On a normal day when I person sneezes it reaches 6-8 metres and suspends in the air for 10mins. I’m sure there’s plenty we don’t know. All we can do is take the necessary precautions and leave the rest in Allahs hands. Allah knows best

At a time when people across the world are worried about keeping their jobs – much less about how they will manage to pay rent – one landlord stepped up.

Hull-born Amy Gledhill tweeted on Tuesday, “My landlord just text me this and I'm sobbing. LANDLORDS, TAKE NOTE. If you're in a position to say this to someone, please do. When we can't rely on the government, we've got to help each other.”

The text read, “given everything that seems to be going on with Covid 19...I want you to feel secure in the house...We’re living in crazy times so take care of yourself and your family.”
