Abdullah bin Mas?ud رضي الله عنه reported, the prophet Peace be upon him said,

?He who has, in his heart, an ant?s weight of arrogance will not enter jannah.? Someone said, ?A man like to wear beautiful clothes and shoes?? Messenger of Allah Peace be upon him said ?Allah is beautiful, He loves beauty. Arrogance means ridiculing and rejecting the truth and despising the people?.

Salama bin Al-Akwa رضي الله عنه reported:

A man ate in the presence of messenger of Allah Peace be upon him with his left hand. He Peace be upon him said, ?Eat with your right hand?. He said, ? I cannot? Thereupon the prophet Peace be upon him said, ?May you never be able to do that?. It was arrogance that prevented him from doing it, and he could not raise it (the right hand) up to his mouth afterwards.

Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reported:

Messenger of Allah Peace be upon him said,

?There are three (types of) people to whom Allah will not speak to on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and they will have a painful punishment. These are: An aged man who commits zina (illicit sexual act), a ruler who lies, and a proud poor person.?

'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: The most despicable amongst persons in the eye of Allah is one who tries to fall into dispute with others (for nothing but only to display his knowledge and power of argumentation).

Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) once mentioned:

Jannah is only for the servants who are humble. If a person has an iota of pride in him, he will first be entered into Jahannum where he will have to be cleansed and purified of the pride. Once he is fully cleansed and purified of pride and only humility remains within him, he will be ushered into Jannah. In essence, no person who has pride can enter Jannah. Jannah is the abode of the people of humility. Hence, one should endeavour to rid oneself of pride and inculcate complete humility.

(Malfoozaat Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) pg. 57)
