As-Salaam alaikum,
May I have the pleasure of sharing the following quotes and/or teachings of some Teachers as given below:--

1) "Seek sweetness in 3 things: Prayer, making Remembrance [Zikr] of Allah and reciting
the Holy Qur'an."-- Hasan Basri (d. 728)

2) "If you seek a friend, Allah Most High is sufficient for you. If you seek comrade, Kiraman Katibeen
(recording angels) are enough. If you seek consoler (munis), the Holy Qur'an is enough. If you
need work, His Worship is enough. If you desire sermon, death is enough. And whatever is said
to you is looked undesirable, then Hell is enough for you."-- Shaqiq Balkhi (d. 857)

3) A man came to Sahl Ibn Abdullah al-Tustari (d. 896) and told him: "A robber broke into my house
and stole my belongings." Sahl said, "Give thanks to Allah, if a robber had entered your heart and
corrupted your belief in Allah's Oneness, then what would you do?"

4) When asked about some worldly thing Rabi'a al-Adwiyya (d. 801) wanted to have, she replied:
"I am ashamed to ask for a thing of this world from Him to whom this world belongs, how can
I ask for it from those to whom it does not belong"?

As-Salaam alaikum,
I have just seen Brother Sulaiman84's remarks above.. he wants to know the source of the quotes I had the chance of posting above. Well, these quotes are contained in the book titled "THE SAYINGS AND TEACHINGS OF THE GREAT MYSTICS OF ISLAM", by Muhammad Riaz Qadiri. You may wish to refer to it for more on those quotes and related issues connected thereof.
Best Wishes.
