My suggestion: 'Fathima' or 'Fatima' (I don't know the correct spelling, so recheck) - either kids get their last names (surnames) of their fathers or 'Fatima' from what I have come across..

In your case that would be Khadijah Abdullah or Khadijah Fatima - both look good..

br Servant, Indian authorities are notorious for their spellings, see if just Fatimah also works - because they tend to sometimes omit the 2nd 'A' - so one name in report cards and another in birth certificate and another in passport can give rise to problems..

Yes will do, I need some more books too. I will send a seperate email to you on this.
Jazakallahu Khairan

Khadijah Fatima looks good. Yes as you said, people might omit the second 'A' in reports, certificate.
Masha Allah, Thanks All - for the suggestion, advice.

I am in America and using a tiny phone so excuse the spellings!

Mubarak to you and your family and may Allah (SWT) make her the coolness of your eyes (Ameen).

"Traditionally" the first name should be based on Sunnah and last name should be the family name e.g. for my daughter Maryam Khan. If someone choses a middle name then it should be the first name of the father e.g. Maryam Muadh Khan. There is no Shariah requirement like this but just recommendation.

If you chose to use Kunya then it can be Maryam Bint Muadh or Maryam Bint Muadh Khan....Using a Kunya as a legal name is an Indian/Pakistani custom and not even an Arab custom let alone Islamic.

So you can chose 2 names (Maryam Khan) or 3 names (middle name of Father i.e. Maryam Muadh Khan) ...

When living in a non-Muslim country it is advised to select a name which can neither be mis-pronounced (easily) nor mis-spelled (easily) e.g. HUDA or MARYAM etc...

It is also advised to insert your (father's) name in the middle so as the child grows up and if Allah (SWT) forbid divorce happens or if her great grandchildren build a family tree they know how to trace the lineage! This is of important in Islamic law specially in Non-Muslim lands to know your (Muslim) ancestry.

All of these are recommendations and not obligations so consult your local Ulamah...
