Blast strikes near prophet’s mosque in Saudi Monday, 4 July 2016
Three suicide bombings took place in the Saudi cities of Madinah and Qatif on Monday evening after a foiled attack earlier in the day in Jeddah.
One attack targeted security forces in the parking lot of Al-Haram al-Nabawi in Madinah, a mosque established and built by the Prophet Mohammad.
The attack near Al-Haram Al-Nabawi took place during Maghreb prayers, the time when observing Muslims break their fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
Security forces are now cordoning off the area.
Meanhile, two other attacks were in the eastern city of Qatif.
Al Arabiya News Channel’s correspondent said worshipers were unhurt following the attack.
The attacks took place after a suicide bomber was killed and two other people wounded in a blast near the US consulate in Saudi Arabia’s city of Jeddah early on Monday.
A report says it was car + gas cylinder that caught fire and exploded. No bombs or terrorist involvement apparently. But all meanstream media is reporting it as a suicide bombing. No surprise there
At 2:15 a.m., a suicide bomber blew himself up near the US Consulate in Jeddah. Security officers confronted him as he moved suspiciously at a parking lot of the Dr. Soliman Fakeih Hospital. Two policemen were wounded lightly in the attack.
The bomber was named as Abdullah Qalzar Khan, an expat from Pakistan, who lived in Jeddah with his wife and her parents and came to the country 12 years ago to work as a private driver.
Assalaamu alyakum
I have had 100 percent confirmation that 2 explosions occurred near section 1 and 2 of jannah tul Baqi.....confirmed by a brother and sister who are from madina Munawwarah. Was suicide bombing. A man approached the guards who were opening there fast and then he exploded killing all of the men and himself.
JEDDAH: Suicide bombers blew themselves up in Qatif and Madinah after sundown on Monday, several hours after Saudi security officers foiled an attack near the US Consulate in Jeddah.
In Madinah, a bomb exploded in the vicinity of a police post outside the Prophet’s Mosque, killing four policemen and two civilians, reports said.
A police source told Arab News that the officers manning the post were having their iftar meal when the suicide bomber struck.
The bomber reportedly asked to join the policemen in having iftar and he was welcomed. As soon as he got near, he exploded his suicide vest.
A video circulated on social media showed a car burning and at least two security officers were seen lying on the open ground and two others lay crumpled near a burning car.
Security forces have cordoned off the Prophet's Mosque and worshippers were not allowed to get in or out.
Madinah Governor Prince Faisal bin Salman arrived at the blast location and visited Al Ansar Hospital where the victims of the blast are being treated.
In Qatif, a governorate in the Eastern Province, two suicide bombers blew themselves up one after the other outside the Faraj Al-Omran Mosque. No casualties were reported.
The number of fatalities reported does not include the three suicide bombers.
Earlier Monday at 2:15 a.m., a suicide bomber blew himself up near the US Consulate when security officers confronted him as he moved suspiciously at a parking lot of the Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital.
Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki, spokesman of the Ministry of Interior, said the bomber, in his 30s, was identified as an expatriate from the United Kingdom.
Photos taken from the scene showed the bomber’s body partially dismembered by the blast.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks so far. Previous mosque attacks in the past months in the kingdom have been claimed by Daesh militants.
I think there might be a confusion. The guards incident was in Jeddah US consulate as far as I have read from actual sources currently in Jeddah/Madinah. The Madinah incident was a gas cylinder and the Qatif one was an alleged (unconfirmed) suicide. Allahu A'lam
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
