Also what's the best way to utilise the search button ? every time I run a search it brings up irrelevant topics that have nothing to do with the phrase searched.

Will this error also be sorted out during the update ?

As its a pity you have many resources here but can't find them when looking for them.

InshaAllah, Maulana can answer with regards to the update.

As far as the search is concerned, I use it very often to help people get what they want and so far it's been a success.

However, I either use one "KEYWORD" or the entire threads name if I know it. There is another method using the pled search function which is the tab next to it (once opened) here you can break it down a little and put a user name too, depending on what you are searching for.

Well I guess its helpful to you because you know what you're looking for, but what about the average user who isn't sure and will type in any phrase that comes to mind and the results that come up are usually totally irrelevant to what he's looking for.

So do we agree that there is an issue that needs improving or is it just me who doesn't know how to utilise the search function properly ? To me it seems as their is an issue as the search itself is not smooth but rigid.

I've used both akhii and I don't think they are currently up to standard- frankly speaking.

Partially agree with you on both posts

The search facility is Google based. Like I said, try using one word instead of multiple ones. I know it doesn't always work.

This is something for Admin :) (my scapegoat)

Any problems should be brought to Admins attention in the Bugs section, inshaAllah, that is something he does look into. Many people tend to ask in the random, but that's not the right place as many posts will get missed.

Google search can use full phrases.

Standard Search will require exact keywords as it search the database for those words only. It's not a search engine so it won't for example match similarities, correct spellings etc.

Personally I use Google powered 90% of the time unless I know exactly what I'm looking for.

On the update there won't be much improvement on the search feature to be honest except for the look.

So in a nutshell

were better of using the Google search rather than the MS search unless we specifically know what were looking for ? The thing is the average person doesn't usually know what he's looking for, as you just type what ever comes to mind, so I guess it can be a hit and miss at times.

But if you recommend Google then that's fine, maybe put up a post showing/telling how best Google can be utilised for searching, just an suggestion.

Why is then whenever I search irrelevant posts come up ?

I searched 'perfume and women', in the results I had my thread showing up about me complaining about anon users being able to post on the forum etc, results were all irrelevant. That's why I was wondering maybe the search needs tuning or I'm searching wrong. Haven't had this issue on SF, in fact you put in anything and if there's been a thread on it it'll pop up, same with other islamic and non islamic forums I have used.

I get the same issues too :) But I eventually find what I'm looking for.

I guess the remaining 10% of the search is to test our patience :)

(I found what you were looking for using the search thread)

Definitely google search is better. It gives more relevant results.

I almost forgot, the update actually will have a better search because I found a very good API.

But the standard search will most likely have the same issues. I will give it a try inshaAllah but no promises.
