Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

  1. Shaykh (Maulana) Yaqoub Kawi Qasmi (HA): The only Graduate of Darul-uloom Deoband with specialisation in Astronomy, most Senior Deobandi Hanafi Faqih in Europe, established authority on the Hanafi Madhab
  2. Shaykh (Maulana) Sameerud-deen Qasmi (HA): The commentator of Quduri, Hidayah and Nurul-Idah and I don't know any other Alim in the world who has tackled Hanafi Fiqh in such depth and in detail. History will remember Maulana (HA) for a long time to come
  3. Shaykh (Maulana) Marghoob Ahmed Lajpuri (HA): I have never met any Deobandi Alim who quotes opinions of all 4 Madhabs on any Fiqh issue verbatim from his memory so casually and then serves you food with his hands (with humility)
  4. Shaykh (Mufti) Yusuf Sacha (HA): 10 minutes with him and you will know what a "Mufti" should be!  Meticulous research on the topic, recalling positions of Hanafi Ulama and Deobandi Akabir on the subject, recalling references from memory, meticulous file system dating back 10-20 years on issues pertaining to British Muslims.
  5. Shaykh (Maulana) Hasan Tai (HA): We never met Shaykhul-Islam (Maulana) Hussain Ahmed Madani (RA) but if this is the condition of his student at 80 years with regards to memorisation, recollection and adherece to Hadeeth then the teacher would have been phenomenonal.
  6. Shaykh (Mufti) Zubair Dudha (HA): We never met Shaykh (Maulana) Ashraf Ali Thanwi (RA) but if this is the condition of the Khanqah, management and discipline of Mureeds in our times then the Khanqah at Thana Bhawan would have been fantastic

السلام عليكم

I have met many Ulema in Khurooj or through khurooj and Wallahi they are hidden gems, but they are hidden and not many know about them as the big names listed above, they mostly devote their time to TJ and play a huge role in working on people/youngsters on a grass roots level, may Allah preserve them and continue to utilise them for his Deen.

Some names I can think of right now :

Mufti Abdur Rahman Manghera : Always a pleasure to listen to him and he never bores you. The way he gives lectures is unique and his knowledge is very vast and he can simplify hard concepts with ease. I follow his YouTube channel closely.

Sheikh Hasan Ali : A Bengali Maulana who can talk the lingo of the youth today, someone very well spoken and aware on today's issues and he's not scared to speak about them either. Has benefitted many youngsters as he's quite easy to get along with, his lectures are awesome. If you haven't heard his lectures then check out his hereafter series it'll change your perspective on life. He also likes to crack jokes as well so you'll be laughing your head off before you know it.

Maulana Muhahid Ali : Dewsbury graduate then studied in Syria, very well spoken and very knowledgable, he used to get Shahada's when out in the path of Allah. Also ex lecturer at ebrahim college.

Mufti Sajid Upton Lane : Attends various mosques, very down to earth and very knowledgeable.

Maulana Abdul Majeed Crawley : Very concerned about the youth, does a lot of work, very knowledgeable and his lectures are always a plesure to listen to. Also I believe he holds a degree in Islamic finance.

Unfortunately, I don't think I've met any British `Ulamaa'. How about a thread for North Americans?

No dr76 it is not him. That abu Aliya deserves another thread for himself. If he was with any other shaykh he would have been a major khalifah/shaykh. The Abu Aaliya I am referring to teaches at various places including ebrahim college. He is a former salafi and found the way of ahlus sunnah wal jammah. His name is abu aaliyah surkheel sharif.

A mixed ...possibly controversial ...crowd:

The 2-3 main ulama behind Ebrahim College (i.e. Shaykh Shams and Shaykh Mushfiqur)

Shaykh Tawfique Chowdary - founded 3 institutes: Al Kauthar, Mercy Mission and National Zakah Foundation. ALL run very professionally and delivers results. His determination and vision.

Shaykh Abu Eesa Naimatullah - Speaks his mind via his articles on contemporary and topical issues

Shaykh Shoaib Nurgat - has guts to not toe the line and go against the grain (even if pilloried, borderline bullied, by hundreds of people). Alot of guts.

I would like to ask you here regarding Shaykh Shukrov Atabek. He is a hanafi shaykh from Usbekistan. It seems that he has modernist tendencies and represents it under the hanafi madhhab. His organisation is called Avicienna Academy. This is a little bit odd since Avicienna is a name of Ibn Sina. When asked about it he said that Ibn Sina was not a kafir. He also promotes Ibn Rushd and Farabi.

I have not seen really bad things from him. But some of his followers have a blog calles "Asharis Assemble" where clear kufr is spreaded under the cover of asharism against wahhabism. For them the Taliban are the ultimate evil and whoever does not refuse them has lost his rights. They say that that the Niqab has absolutely no value in islam and likewise the beard. They accept shia as a valid form of islam. They consider people like Timothy Winters to be muslims. They do not make takfir of secularists. They say music is absolutely allowed in islam. And many other things which are kufr. All this under the cover of asharism and even the hanafi madhhab as the most liberal of all.

I do not if Shaykh Atabek holds the same views this people who are associated with him.
