Quote:
2)Adhkaar Jalalli - (Awe & Power) - those Adhkar related to this Siffat of Allah require the permission and advice of the Shaykh and can be very detrimental to the health and spirit of a person if done without guidance of a Shaykh.

Please elaborate on how they can be deterimental to a person. This is a genuine question.

Quote:
Thse Adhkaar include but are not limited to: La illaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntum minadhalemeen(Ayat Kareema), certain Asma ul Husna e.g Jaleel, Qabidh...Allahu Allah......

So Im not allowed to ponder upon an ayah of the Qur'an, or the names of Allah? But don't we do that everyday anyway (I.e. in salah, tafseer Qur'an etc...)?

Shaykh (Dr) Hussain Abdul-Sattar (HA) says that if a person needs help he can get some over the counter medication for his cold/flu so here it is:

For specialised help he must see a Doctor.

Great link, will read it later. Yes, all im talking about here is some basic over-the-counter medication, not full-on heart surgery. For that you need connection to a shaykh. I agree.

You've misunderstood my entire post akhii, maybe I lack in explaining things clearly and for that I apologise in being unable to do so.

Read akhi dr76 post Insh'Ala that will make more sense and clear up the confusion.

You haven't said anything wrong and I had the same misunderstanding. Dr76 Saheb asked me to go back to Shaykh (Mufti) Kamaluddin (HA) about my blog so I did and he clarified the matter for me clearly.

So I misunderstood, we had a big pow-wow on email with Dr76, Shaykh Fusus and some Mashaykh and students of Tassawuff, in the end I was advised to go back to havn't Shaykh (Mufti) Kamaluddin (HA) and seek clarification which I did..

The names of Allah سبحانه وتعالى does have a tremendous effect on a person and his surroundings.. like when someone begins Zikr e Qalbi.. know that the Ism is linked to the Musamma (the called upon).. so when one continuously recites a particular Ism the Manifestations of such Ism begin to activate.. his heart is filled with Noor..and this Noor begins to disperse to his other Lataif and so on..

Now each of us have a different Physical as well as spiritual temperament.. what Bhai Muadh khan can withstand his brother wouldnt be able to.. and likewise with each of us.. Now the shaikh modulates the Zikr according to the saalik's capacity..

Else.. the bulb may just go Pop...

And it has happened.. a relative of mine who was a zimmedar type of person and amongst the inner circles of Hazrat Haji Abdul Wahhab sahab (db) went crazy..

He used to go on walking in the middle of the night and speak incoherently.. later it was known that he had taken to DIY sulook and was reciting La ilaha illa anta subhanaka innikuntu... some thousands of times..

I myself heard from Hazrat Maulana Usman sahab Madani (db) that Hazrat Haji Abdul wahhab sahab (db) admonished him ( my relative) saying " u arent doing any good but the devil has over taken u.." he also got afflicted with Jinnat.. and was finally deported out of saudi as a Mad man tied in chains..

so this is what happens brother.. we find many such incidents in the books..

wa Assalam..

Maybe im not getting this because im not connected with a shaykh, but you're telling me people can go crazy because of doing "too much" dhikr?

And you're telling me that I cannot do dhikr with the ayah of the Qur'an you mentioned, until I find a shaykh? Then why Is it that I see many Imams and lecturers who encourage the 'awwam to do these types of dhikrs (knowing that most of them have no shaykh)? Are they wrong to do so?

I just don't see how its wrong to contemplate on the akhirah, even if you don't have a shaykh. That muraaqabah technique I mentioned in my OP, Shaykh Hasan Ali had advised everyone to do it. Something like that can only lead to good, not evil.

MashaAllah, great input here.

I'm in a similar predicament as brother Arsalan. I don't have a Shaykh nor am I an alim, hafiz. But I could never understand why one could not do his own Dhikr of some sort. I thought it was all bonkers.

But I'll tell you something, just recently someone said to do some basic Dhikr which consisted of 100 of 3 basic adhkaars. I started doing it then I found myself slacking BIG time, I was doing wrong and things were getting out of hand. I asked myself why in the world I was messing up, especially after doing such Dhikr. I was sinning and repenting and so on.

My only thought was that since I've started these Dhikr, shaitan stepped up a gear or two and it got to me. The only thing I could do was stop these basics. Once I stopped, I got back into my normal daily routine of the very basics and shaitan backed off.

So I guess I'm understanding what the brothers are saying.

Be careful bro. It's scary and can have a strange negative impact.

This Dhikr that you were given is it general Dhikr or Sufiya Dhikr from a certain silsilah ?

Akhii to me it seems you stepped up a few gears, started growing spiritually stronger so the devil sent more devils after you, generally it is the case that when one gets stronger Islamically and spiritually then the more the Shayateen come after him. Look at this this way, a thief will only rob a house where he knows he will find goods, ever heard of a thief robbing an empty house ? Nope. Same way when one gets stronger then these things attack more and make him think all sorts.

I don't think the Dhikr had anything to do with your situation, but now you backed away their happy with that and left you to it and you thinking its the Dhikr that had an big effect , so I disagree with your interpretation( that's what it seems )

By the way this is just a mere observation and my posts are not qualified posts, just observations so Walahu'Alam

That's what I've been saying to others for years and find myself walking straight into it.
