Masjid Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin (Brunei)

Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Masjid is located in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of the Sultanate of Brunei. It is considered one of the most beautiful masjids in the Asia Pacific and a major landmark and tourist attraction of Brunei.

Named after Omar Ali Saifuddin III, the 28th Sultan of Brunei, the masjid dominates the skyline of Bandar Seri Begawan, as a symbol of the Islamic faith in Brunei. The building was completed in 1958 and is an example of modern Islamic architecture. It unites Mughal architecture and Italian styles. The plans were done by Booty and Edwards Chartered Architects according to designs by the Italian architect Cavaliere Rudolfo Nolli, who had already for decades been working at the gulf of Siam.

The masjid is built in an artificial lagoon on the banks of the Brunei River at Kampong Ayer, the "village in the water". It has marble minarets and golden domes with courtyards and lush gardens full of fountains. It is surrounded by a large number of trees and floral gardens. A bridge reaches across the lagoon to Kampong Ayer in the middle of the river. Another marble bridge leads to a structure in the lagoon meant as a replica of a 16th Century Sultan Bolkiah mahligai barge. It was built to commemorate the 1,400th anniversary of Nuzul Al-Quran (coming down of the Quran), completed in 1967 and used to stage Quran reading competitions.

The masjid's most recognizable feature, the main dome, is covered in pure gold. The masjid stands 52 ms high and can be seen from virtually anywhere in Bandar Seri Begawan. The main minaret is the masjid's tallest feature. In a unique way it mixes Renaissance and Italian architectural style. The minaret has an elevator to the top, where one can enjoy a panoramic view of the city.

The interior of the masjid is for prayer only. It has magnificent stained glass windows, arches, semi-domes and marble columns. Nearly all the material used for the building has been imported from abroad: the marble from Italy, the granite from Shanghai, the crystal chandeliers from England and the carpets from Saudi Arabia.

Now this is a visual treat.. one of the most beautiful Masajids in the world - The Shaikh Zayed grand mosque in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.

Sheikh Zayed died in 2004 and was buried on the grounds of the mosque. Three years later, the impressive building that had cost $545 million to create, finally opened its doors to the public. With a capacity for 40,000 worshippers, it is one of the largest mosques in the world. However, its size alone is not its most amazing characteristic.

Inside the prayer hall is the world's largest carpet, weighing in at 35 tons and covering 60,000 square feet. With over 2.3 billion knots, the carpet represents the grand effort of the mosque. The prayer room also features a number of massive chandeliers bedecked in Swarovski crystals.

REMAINDER FOR QIYAMAH. Subhan Allah

today, Even in India you see Gigantic masjids.

We see beautiful ceiling lights, decorated walls, finer rugs, Family Jumbo Meals Iftaar;
but we forgot our brothers who doesnt have a lamp, who doesnt have a wall/roof to live under it, who doesnt have clothes to cover the body, who is starving.

On the other side, most of the Masjid committee must take Islamic basic and advanced classes. Frankly speaking they must see themselves in the light of Shairah before stepping to take positions in the house of Allah. Some committee members think that Mashwara as a democratic polling where Majority wins. If West, Allahu Akbar... women take decisions too. Inna lillahi wa ina ilaihi rajioun

The elders say before 'Masjids were Kachi, and Imaans were pakka, now it's the other way round.

In other words, yesterday mosques were weak but imaan levels were strong, today mosques are strong and grand but iman levels are extremely weak.
