Yes Nafs-e-Ammara is also our enemy just like Shaitan.

You must have heard about jihad bin-nafs. Have you?

It might be from Shaitan, so you should just recite ta'awwudh and you must not pay attention to these thoughts. Shaykh Saleem Dhorat says:

"Thoughts/ Wasaawis are like Guests. If one made a guest feel welcome, the guest is inclined to visit again and the more welcome he is made to feel the more he will be inclined to visit. However when a guest is made to feel unwelcome he may visit once or twice and then at the continuous cool reception no self respecting person will visit again.

Similarly unwanted thoughts/Wasaawis will continue to come if attention is paid to them. If ignored they may persist for a while but eventually they will cease Insha Allah."

I don't know, brother. You would know it better than me.

Anyways please see this blog post by brother Seifeddine-M. Hope it helps.

Also found the following in Tafseer ibn Katheer in the explanation of Surah al-Isra verse 85:

Quote:
As-Suhayili mentioned the dispute among the scholars over whether the Ruh is the same as the Nafs, or something different. He stated that it is light and soft, like air, flowing through the body like water through the veins of a tree. He states that the Ruh which the angel breathes into the fetus is the Nafs, provided that it joins the body and acquires certain qualities because of it, whether good or bad. So then it is either a soul in (complete) rest and satisfaction (89:27) or inclined to evil (12:53), just as water is the life of the tree, then by mixing with it, it produces something else, so that if it mixes with grapes and the grapes are then squeezed, it becomes juice or wine. Then it is no longer called water, except in a metaphorical sense. Thus we should understand the connection between Nafs and Ruh; the Ruh is not called Nafs except when it joins the body and is affected by it. So in conclusion we may say: the Ruh is the origin and essence, and the Nafs consists of the Ruh and its connection to the body. So they are the same in one sense but not in another. This is a good explanation, and Allah knows best. I say: people speak about the essence of the Ruh and its rulings, and many books have been written on this topic. One of the best of those who spoke of this was Al-Hafiz Ibn Mandah in a book which we have heard about the Ruh.

I don't know much about tasawwuf but I heard from a Naqshbandi shaykh about the laataif (subtleties) of 'Alam-e-Amr (world of command) and 'Alam-e-Khalq (world of creation). And he mentioned lateefa-e-nafs and lateefa-e-rooh separately. You must have read about it?

I have read about them, yes, but I have to admit, I don’t necessarily understand them. I will try to briefly summarise my understanding of lataif :

“Allah created some things by the word ‫كن ‬ which is ‫امر ‬ or order/command hence called ‫عالم امر‬, other things were gradually created and called ‫عالم خلق‬

Alam e amr is composed of abstract/subtle things including lataif
(except nafs which belongs to alame khalq) and are originally considered  to be placed above Arsh (عرش), ‬ which means that their 'realities' are above Arsh and therefore abstract/subtle in nature. Their ‘shadows’ are placed in our bodies in different locations as described in books.

The shadows of lataif placed in the body are said to have got corrupted in the company of nafs and earthly bodies and have therefore forgotten their realities. Now we have to work on them so that they can 'ascend', 'join' their 'realities' and refresh their memories. This process is called "FANA OF LATAIF". After FANA when they come back to the body they are supposed to be coloured with their original/true colours and therefore attentive towards Allah swt .‬

Lataif are supposed to be located as follows:

Qalb=Left side of chest towards axilla
Rooh =Right side of chest towards axilla
Sirr= Left side towards the centre of chest
Khafi =Right side towards the centre of chest
Akhfa = Behind sternum
NAFS = Centre of forehead

•The locations of lataif are the points through which these shadows are connected to alam e amr. Every latifa has got a different frequency,like we tune BBC,CNN etc on radio.  With regular dhikr we tune our lataif to their frequencies of Alame amr so that they can listen to their origins and get awakened. Once awakened they are attracted towards their roots and try to get ‘Urooj’ (ascent) to alam e amr.

•’Urooj’ in this context does not mean ‘physical’ ascent (though written as such,and even seen in kashaf as such)...but mean tawajjo/attentiveness of lataif  towards their origins...the origins themselves  being absorbed in attention towards Allah swt

•Alam e amr PLUS Alame khalq combined is called ‫دائرہ امکان۔‬

The rest of its theory is simply beyond my capacity to understand :(
