AL MABROOR INVESTMENTS

CLARIFICATION

In the current issue of The Majlis, Vol. 23 No.12, on page 9 we have an article captioned: AL-MABROOR INVESTMENTS.

In response to a question, we answered that Al-Mabroor Investmentsare not compliant with the Shariah, hence it is not permissible to invest in the venture.

Our ruling was based on a ‘Partnership Agreement’ which is riddled with terms and conditions in conflict with the Shariah. We were given to understand that the contract was an Al-Mabroor partnership agreement.

Muhtaram Mufti Ebrahim Desai has now informed us that the Agreement on which we had based our ruling is NOT a product of Al-Mabroor Investments.

In view of Mufti Ebrahim Desai’s clarification, we retract our ruling which appears in Vol.23 No.12 of The Majlis.

Since we have not studied the product of Al-Mabroor Investments, we remain non-committal at this stage.

So many misconceptions can be cleared if we bother to listen to the other side of the story before dishing out fatwas on individuals and institutions.

The irony is for people who continuously trust such a source for their Eemaan.

The hearing in South African Court was done recently. South Africans (Ulama and Laymen) know very well what happened and yet they choose to remain silent!

This is one of the huge reasons why I have a big issue with The Majlis. The name itself is Ironic as the meaning is "a place of gathering" yet The Majlis doesn't seem to gather (figuratively) with any opposition before spouting rulings and blows. Had they consulted each person, institute or group before condemning them to Jahannam and making them sons and daughters of Iblees (words of the Majlis), there wouldn't be feuds, retractions or even a banning on this site of all their publications and links.

I will have to lock this thread now before it spirals out of control.
