Few Snippets from Rayyan Insitute's Webinar: "Confronting Uncomfortable Norms: Racism in our Communities" w/ Sh. Hamzah Maqbul
-Practical tip: Invite somebody to your house who is not from the same ethnic or socio-economic background as you. @HamzahMaqbul
-Using racist terms such as "abd" or "abeed" to refer to black people is disgusting, it is not funny. @HamzahMaqbul
-In group conversations, even if a SINGLE person does not speak the language you are conversing in, don't do it. @HamzahMaqbul
-DON'T exclude people based on their ethnicity in conversations or events. @HamzahMaqbul
-Excluding people based on race & ethnicity is never okay, especially in masjid events. @HamzahMaqbul
-Inviting a speaker to a masjid event who does not speak the language of some in the community? Arrange a translator. @HamzahMaqbul
-You don't want anyone in the masjid space to feel disbarred from the masjid. @HamzahMaqbul
-We shouldn't do anything to disenfranchise anyone from the House of Allah. So translation is a big deal. @HamzahMaqbul
-Another issue is FOOD. Is the masjid is sponsoring a dinner, they have a responsibility to make it palatable for everyone. @HamzahMaqbul
-It is not permissible to make a masjid which caters to one group of people and not the other. @HamzahMaqbul
-Don't reject a good suitor in marriage based on race if you feel compatible. @HamzahMaqbul
-No one has a right to feel any superiority over a mixed marriage couple. @HamzahMaqbul
-If you're able to stop people joking with racist undertones, do so. If you are unable to do so, you should get up and leave. @HamzahMaqbul
-The idea of thinking of yourself better based on race & nationality don't return to the Prophet Salalahu Alayhi Wasalam, they return to Jahiliyyah. @HamzahMaqbul
-The Prophet ï·º tied racism with kufr (disbelief) because it is a grave matter. @HamzahMaqbul
-The concept of race in our society today is something that was alien even to the Arabs of jahiliyyah. @HamzahMaqbul
-Discriminating based on lineage is bogus, we only look at lineage to keep kinship bonds. @HamzahMaqbul
-The idea of "pure race" is a fable, a complete fantasy. It does not exist. @HamzahMaqbul
-'Ali رضي الله عنه says if there is some lineage people should boast about then let them know our forefathers are two: dust & water. @HamzahMaqbul

The Shayk also agreed with the following tweet: "sadly it seems to me sum ppl use 'shariah' as excuse for 'racism' in marriage and masjid administrative issues."
