Agree with that. Congress is working to be the B team of BJP. Its depressing to see what happened in UP and Uttarakhand this morning.

But this is the deen of Allah Ta'ala and it will survive and we will survive.

However, Muslims of India are in real danger of being victimised and polarised.

Historic Times for Muslims of India

BJP winning 312 out of 403 assembly seats in UP will lead to most critical times not only for UP Muslims but even at the national level.

This type of thing could always happen, democracy or no democracy. The irksome thing for me is Muslims not being as active as they must be.

An American Bakt??

..... Jason K

(Copied from the Facebook )

As an American and a self confessed Indophile, I had a lot of insights I gleaned while traversing the length and breadth of the country. Incidentally I take care of funded projects and this exposes me to a interactions with the poor and ultra poor of the country. Hopefully I will debunk a few myths about India, which my North American colleagues should know, along with some Indians who will hopefully read this post:

1. Like it or leave it, the hinterland of India is firmly behind Modi. They don't give a rat's ass if you call them his followers, or "bakts" as I have heard. For the first time they have a leader and a party that has gone through almost 3 years without a single financial scam against their name. For a country used to spectacular monetary frauds and a silent PM who took plausible deniability to laughable proportions, this is a great and welcome change
2. Muslim don't hate Modi. Educated intelligent non Muslims (read Hindus) hate him more! Simply because he has hijacked their agenda and has started influencing public opinion more than carefully crafted editorials or freebies doled out during elections. Armchair experts who discussed Indian politics over the ubiquitous cup of 'chai' are being given a nice proverbial kick on their rounded rumps. The man is shaping opinions and this isn't being liked by sections of the media who were interestingly the same set of people who are still smarting from Brexit and our own Trump presidency.
3. The only issue that Indians seem to have against Modi is the specter of the riots that he had apparently engineered as the Chief Minister of the state of Gujarat. Which in itself seems weird, since their own Supreme Court has absolved him of any wrongdoings ! But a section of media and over zealous continue to fashionably pursue his censure. Incidentally they went after him for a so called fake encounter where a lady was killed, only to eat their words when the lady was lauded later as one of their own on the Al Qaeda website ! Haven't heard anything from his detractors on this point after that...
4. I get a sense that a lot of Indians consider it a status symbol to oppose Modi, as it makes them appear intellectual and secular. Case in point was the CM of Delhi (along with a lot of intellectuals) who questioned his educational qualifications. But again went completely silent when he was exonerated by the University that confirmed their authenticity. It's the worst kind of 'spit and run' politics that you can imagine. People will keep spitting and hope that something sticks. Specially because no one can find one thing against this man which will get validated
5. Public memory in India is notoriously short in India. The 1984 carnage in which the martial sect of Sikhs were mercilessly slaughtered has been forgotten by the state of Punjab, which has today booted out the Akali Dal and brought in the Congress. I see that not only as an example of short memory, but also as a positive and mature sign, as a very corrupt incumbent party was thrown out. But then if this is being welcomed by a lot of intellectuals, why is a section of polity so perturbed by the BJP getting substantial Muslim votes in UP? Just like how the Sikhs have forgiven the Congress, maybe the Muslims have forgiven the BJP! Mind boggling double standards... Like the Sikhs, why can't Muslims also want good governance and development?
6. As the third largest economy in PPP terms, India stunned the world by pulling out 86% of its currency that was in circulation. While it is still debatable whether it was a good move (as an Economics major, am not completely convinced), the country seems to lap it up. My sense is not whether it was a good or a bad move; it was a VISIBLE move, which when you analyze with the BJPs track record of no scams, seems to make Modi even more credible.
7. Where Modi lost the trick (in my opinion) is when he promised to put in a couple of million rupees in the accounts of the poor and underprivileged. And his promise of better days. That has backfired and seems to have given fodder to a lot of Indians who were expecting him to work miracles. And am not surprised. Since I do know that in the land of spiritual enlightenment, miracles are often expected and taken for granted.

Finally, I know after what we did (remember Trump as POTUS), me as an American may get laughed off by a lot of intelligent and secular Indians for my opinion. But I will still risk it.

Give the man a chance ! He is doing the right thing and has balls and guts and spine. The man did an open truck rally in the holy city of Kashi, for Christ's sake ! Try walking in those bylanes (I speak from experience) to know how massively mental it really is. I had a memory of JFK in Dallas. One crazy sniper would have plunged your country into chaos. Be happy that it didn't happen. And hope that it never does. Who knows it better than us Yanks, as we have had the maximum assassinations or attempts on our serving Presidents.

Stop being fashionable and ridiculing those who support him. You may think it is cool to do so, but the joke is on you. Most of the country loves him. So while you could agree to disagree with his policies, what you don't realize is that ridiculing his supporters only makes them more supportive. It's just like how Android users ridiculed IOS as the worlds worst 'closed software'. But the moment they opened their eyes to what the iPhone could really do, they changed not only their opinion, but also their handsets 😉

Do you realize that when you speak to Modi detractors, they completely lose their ability to be objective about their opinions? I have yet to come across a single detractor who is open to looking at Modi objectively and probably moving to the other side. However there are many Modi supporters who I know have criticized his policies and probably changed their allegiance. Makes me thus wonder as to who the real 'bakts' are? The ones who follow Modi or the ones who debunk anything and everything that he does?

There seems to be no spirit of bipartisan acceptance at all. It was shocking that even the army surgical strikes were debunked by a few political parties in India. Sorry folks, we know we have Trump, but even the most uneducated American would stand behind any President when it came to my country. When you start questioning the credibility of your own armed forces, there is something something seriously seriously wrong with you. The star spangled banner is the supreme authority in the US of A and the tricolor should definitely be theirs. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case in India

I know America won't be great again, simply because we are a great nation and will remain so. Trump will be gone in 4 years but Modi seems set to rule India for 5 years beyond 2019. Consider it your greatest fortune. Imagine a few more years of scams and a silent PM who couldn't translate his extra ordinary brilliance and credentials into what could have been in my opinion the greatest prime ministership of all time. Mr Singh has a resume that could be the aggregation of academic achievements of 10 to the top of class Harvard graduates in any year ! Do read up about this extraordinary individual and the extraordinary and unbelievable set of scams that he presided over. Not because of his ineptitude, but the mind numbing control exercised by a dynasty who are now unwittingly destroying their grand old party.

Sorry if this sounds like a diatribe, but I love India and all it's people. It takes one look at Dr Shashi Tharoor's speech at Oxford to realize that it's not India Shining or developing. India is simply now regaining its rightful place in the world pecking order. And if you want to continue steaming ahead and getting there, the 'chai' seller of Gujarat seems to be your best bet. And God save you if you need a general election to choose him over the buffoon (sorry) who goes by the name of Rahul Gandhi.

The Shape of Things Unfolding in Uttar Pradesh, UP, India

Ajay Singh Bisht was born in the state of Uttarakhand in India. He is now called Yogi Adityanath and has become the Chief Minister, the head of the state government, of UP. For years he has been known for spewing venom against Muslim. His utterings have been mostly virulent and ruthless. One of the most circulated video clips by his has him asserting that Hindu and Muslim cultures simply can not co-exist. This is the same clip in which another speaker advocates digging out dead Muslim women to rape.

After his swearing in as the CM there has been some cursory statements from their party about Muslims that could be taken positive. On actual ground a very ugly scenario is unfolding in UP. This scenario is worse then the similar one that unfolded at the national level when BJP came to pwer in the central government of India in May 2014.

This time the Chief Minister, the CM, has began by closing down abattoirs that has unleashed considerable havoc on Muslims in general.

In anpther incident the BJP workers forced there way into a Mosque and did not allow Asr and Maghrib prayers. The BJP workers indulged in slogan shouting of Jai Shri Ram, hail Lord Rama, as the helpless Muslims watched the drama.

In yet another episode the women from a BJP wing beat up Muslim women in front of police in Meerut.

At private level I also got the information that a colleague of ours might get arrested because he was present some time ago at the effigy burning of a BJP leader.

Closer home there was a student fight in our own department where a boy from majority community got head injury and high operatives of the BJP students' organization got mobilized upto university hospital as well as up to higher police officials.

The mood of some of the people in the majority community is very pugnacious, strident and nasty.

West is Better Than India

Most of the brothers and sisters do not post on current affairs, particularly the political scenario around the Muslims. If you are in the west then you are in a much better position to do so than even India. If you are not intent upon any abrasive activity then the risk in commenting on these issues is virtually negligible. In case you abstain from commenting on these issues then the loss is really very significant. The west as well as the powers that be in India are gpoing to simply bull-doze their way.

I have this question or concern in me for which I am seeking answer. I am from south India and when I read the news about hindu fascists targeting Muslims in north india and even kill them, I find it very disturbing. I am sure things are worst in north for Muslims than in South. How are Muslims prepared to face such situations? What do the ulema advice them? Let Allah SWT protect the Muslims, how will Muslims face in case worst happens and when the ruling party will use all its power to oppress Muslims?

These are all very good questions and I can assure you of the bad news only my sister - no one has good answers to every single one of these questions.

Since you are from South India you can contribute enormously towards the solution of these problems. Our South Indian brothers and sisters must start a media campaign that South India is not with RSS in their Islamophobic agenda. I am sure the majority community from South India will support us. This itself will be sufficient to take the air out of the hideous juggernaut unleashed upon us in North India.

Don’t push the Indian Muslim over the edge

Salman Anees Soz

It suggested that a shared history of over a 1,000 years, a tradition of Sufi Islam and a recourse to a democratic framework along with a watchful State have kept Muslims moderate(Abhishek Saha/HT Photo)

An expert on Islamic affairs working in the United States recently observed: “I’ve been very struck by the lack of a strong, indigenous jihadist movement in India. What do you think explains its absence?” I had no immediate response. If you review some of the commentary from influential Indian writers, a jihadist cataclysm seems imminent. Right-wing political discourse, fuelled by the RSS and BJP, is increasingly Islamophobic. Ultra-nationalism and loyalty tests have entered public discourse. Yet the only longstanding violent movement involving Muslims in India is in Kashmir, which is not strictly an issue about Islamic radicalism. Why hasn’t Islamic extremism taken hold in India?

According to the Global Terrorism Database, hosted by the University of Maryland, acts of terrorism in India by Muslims were far fewer than those committed by others. Furthermore, these declined as a share of the total over the period 2000-2014. While SIMI and Indian Mujahedeen were in the news, their impact was limited. Attacks linked to these outfits claimed less than 150 fatalities. These numbers don’t suggest the kind of threat many Right-wing politicians and writers have in mind.

The rise of the Islamic State (IS) and its ability to attract young minds is a danger India must remain vigilant to, but available data shows that Indian Muslims have so far shunned IS. A recent analysis published by The Telegraph, a British newspaper, estimates that about 27,000 foreigners are fighting for IS in Iraq and Syria. Of these, Indians account for only 23 to 45. In absolute terms or as a share of India’s Muslim population, this is minuscule.

In the 2014 article ‘Why India’s Muslims are so moderate’, The Economist explained that Indian Muslims have remained moderate in spite of “reasons for some gloom: they endure lower levels of education, income, political representation or government jobs than the majority Hindus.” It suggested that a shared history of over a 1,000 years, a tradition of Sufi Islam and a recourse to a democratic framework along with a watchful State have kept Muslims moderate.

But these explanations are insufficient. Whatever the influence of Sufi Islam, it is also true that Muslims today are very diverse. In fact, diversity is a natural risk management mechanism and creates a barrier to any extremist ideology.

Writers like Fareed Zakaria have argued that disaffection caused by a loss of identity in second generation European Muslims combined with discrimination has led many to join IS. As indicated in the Sachar Committee Report, Indian Muslims suffer ‘socioeconomic deprivation’, but this has still not proven sufficient to push young Muslims over the edge. The reason could be that other communities, such as Dalits, also face discrimination and this ‘misery loves company’ syndrome could dilute the lure of extremism.

Two points of caution are in order. First, the past cannot guarantee the future. Vigilance by Muslim families, community leaders, and the government is necessary. Second, the rise of Hindutva and ultra-nationalism may pave the way for institutionalised marginalisation of Muslims. This will shake the foundations of India’s pluralistic character. These trends are dangerous, self-defeating and threaten India’s security and well-being.

Indian Muslims have overwhelmingly rejected extremism. Yet efforts are on to make Muslims the ‘other’. The RSS and BJP cannot strengthen India without taking everybody, including Muslims, along. The sooner they understand this, the better it will be for India.

Salman Anees Soz, formerly with the World Bank, is a national media panellist of the Indian National Congress

A Difficult Task

To make a case for Islam and Muslims is the most difficult task today.

Look at this Facebook comment:
Quote:
This is the scariest article I have read for years.

If modern Turkey can turn from secular to the Islamic sultanate of Erdogan, then there is no reason that backward India can't go from secular to the Hindu Rashtra of Raja Modi.

Terrifying.

How come Erdugan winning a refrendum in Turkey is being compared with the Hindu Rashtra agenda in India?
And even more scary than that?

Here is the article termed most scary.

Some points from the bayan of maulvi asjad qasmi during rabta e millat conference(unity among Muslims) ....

Today Indian muslim s can be categorized in three category
1st group who lost every hope , desperate and think that Muslims will not get the glory back one they had... and percentage of this group is more ...

2 nd group who calls for the help from political party to solve Muslims problems..

3rd group who is constantly connected with Allah, who always make duwa for the betterment of ummah. antecedent s will not bother them but to increase ties with Allah.. they are vary less in quantity...

maulana compared the Indian Muslim situation with those Muslims present at Makkah mukarrama in initial Islamic times..
he told we had some similarities with people of Makkah...

1) minorities- both were/are minorities..
but in fact Muslims of Makkah were very less compromising 1%, where as Indian Muslims are about 20-25%...
2) wealth and power- at the beginning of Islam Muslims of Makkah were very week and did not have any power.. but Muslims today in India are somewhat wealthy and have powers...

3) OPPOSITION- for Muslims in Makkah whole kuffar of Makkah became enemies and gave many aziyath...

but for Indian Muslims whole India/ Hindu community are not acting as enemy but only bunch of people.. and many Hindus still support Muslims in many causes...

after that maulana urged us to follow the agenda of Muslims of Makkah from which they overpowered the enemity and conquered the heart's...
the agenda includes ...

1) ittehaad-unity---- you will not find a single incident of internal fight between Muslims in 13 years of makki life ..
and unity will not come that easily.. u have to work a lot for this ... unity needs sacrifice... u have to kill ur ego etc......

2) khidmat e khalq( community services)

this quality is very important by which many people will come towards us..

he gave an example of Sarwar e alam sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, even after giving so many aziyath to him... they kept their amanah in his house. ..

3) dawat e deen- Allah helps is always with daee...

4) sabr(patience)-
5) musbat soonch( positive thinking)

Horrible Security Situation of Muslims in India Today

To bearded Muslims in the cow belt were taken out of their car and mistreated, manhandled, humiliated and forced to say Hindi slogans.

That is just one of many incidents that can be cited to record very pathetic state of Muslims today in India.

Even yours truly is by now fed up with this task of reporting the bad news regarding Muslims from India.

Henceforth L shall only report if there is a change for the good for Muslims of India.

So a Kashmiri student of mine came to my chamber for examination related issues. I began the conversation by asking about his family and locality in view of worsening state of affairs there. The answer, of course, was unpleasant news only.

That is when I told him off. "Now we too rae in a similar soup, we too are getting harrased and killed, therefore you can not claim superiority over us," I told him." He smiled meekly.

Jo sunayi anjuman mein
Shab-e-gham ki aapbeeti
Kai roke muskuraye
Kai muskurake roye

When I related amongst friends
The story of night of sadness
Many smiled after crying
Many cried after smiling
