India is home to a historical, ancient civilisation while America is a fairly new phenomenon. However, the political turn in both countries has some similar attributes. Both countries witnessed a massive rise in economic and income inequality in the past few decades and as a result you have the “Haves” and the “Have nots”.
The rise in inequality is a result of banks and big businesses making money on the backs of hard work of common people. These banks and big business have bought politicians and Governments have sold economic liberalisation (at all costs) as the ONLY solution to all problems.
BJP and the republican party both tout economic liberalisation and “jobs, jobs and jobs” as their major achievement but the feeling of “being left behind” is not going away. It is not possible for the politicians and those in charge of the Government to perform sincere root cause analysis and to ensure that wealth and prosperity is distributed more equally. Their solution is to create a bogeyman and shift the blame on the bogeyman. It is not the Government policies but the outsider who is responsible for taking away your jobs, for a rise in crimes and for the lack of safety and security. It is easy to sell this vision and it is even easier for the public to buy it as most laymen don’t have the intellectual capacity to reflect and understand the real reasons.
Republicans and the BJP have effectively used the Media in their campaigns and they can simply label any critique of their policies as “Fake news or Presstitutes”. This is the simplest technique to discredit someone. Don’t answer them, don’t entertain them, simply discredit them as untrustworthy and the messages are automatically lost.
When the outsiders protest peacefully, the other side is ignited to also protest out of sheer competition instead of a moral cause. Those who are getting lynched are protesting out of morality but celebrating the “lynchers” is out of sheer ideological opposition and nothing else.
BUT the situation in India is far worse and here is why.
The demographics in America are changing and rapidly. Republicans may be able to win the elections (due to the electoral college and gerrymandering) but the majority DOES NOT support them and it is clear in public and political discourse. In India, Muslims are not only a minority but a significant minority and thus unable to oppose BJP in any meaningful way. Muslims need to make an alliance with other minorities as their (lack of) numbers will not stand.
I have given up on Indian Muslims uniting! I have dealt with many Indian Muslims (Ulama and laymen alike) and THEY HAVE NO IDEA about their predicament whatsoever. They carry on being divided and sectarian amongst themselves, completely oblivious of their vulnerabilities and their positions. I have never been to India and I have no idea why Indian Muslims are so obtuse. I have sat down with Indian Muslims for decades and overwhelming majority of them are absolutely oblivious to the dangers posed to their survival. This show the level of maturity of Indian Muslims, utterly divided, absolutely powerless, completely oblivious, totally clueless and unable to organise a two-way ticket raffle or a bun fight in a bakery!
AIMPLB “was” a huge achievement for Indian Muslims and it shows that their predecessors were able to set aside their differences and fight for the common cause of Islam and Muslims. The current lot are a smear on the honourable reputation of their forefathers.
The Media in America is able to viciously shine a light on the far-right Government while the (mainstream) Media in India is largely silent apart from a few anchors/Journalists.
In the long run, neither America nor India will survive if they carry on along the same path.
The same is happening in Europe and the European society will also break down, it will only break down even quicker because Europe doesn’t even have economic prosperity and jobs to fall back on!
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
