In a hadeeth reported by Imam Bukhari, Rasūl Allāh صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

والله إنِّي لأَسْتَغْفِرُ الله وأَتُوبُ إِلَيْه في

اليَوْمِ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً

By Allah I seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to him more than seventy times in a day
[Tirmidhi]

A person cannot progress on the path of tazkiyah (spiritual purification) without sincere tawbah (repentance). Tawbah is to return to one's original pure state. The Ulama (scholars) of tazkiyah say that a person should be repentant every moment of the day. Repentance is not only verbal, but more importantly, repentance should be in one's state of heart and mind. The proof of tawbah and it's main component is remorse and one can never be remorseful without remembering one's sins. A person's character should be dripping with remorse and this inspires others to forgive. The true state of tawbah reveals itself in a person's speech, gait and appearance.

This dunya (world) is where sins are committed and a truly repentant person will dislike the dunya because he is trying to flee from sin.

[This short excerpt is based on a brothers' majlis (gathering held for spiritual training) held by Shaykh Abu Yusuf Riyadh ul Haq on 14th July 2001].

O son of Adam, if you were to come to Me with sins that are close to filling the earth and then you would meet Me without ascribing any partners with Me, I would certainly bring to you forgiveness close to filling it."

O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. [hadith Qudsi]

Surah Baqarah verse verse
Indeed, Allah does not feel shy in citing any parable, be it that of a gnat or of something above it (in meanness). Now, as for those who believe, they know it is the truth from their Lord; while those who disbelieve say, "What could Allah have meant by this parable?" By this He lets many go astray, and by this He makes many find guidance. But He does not let anyone go astray thereby except those who are sinful.

He said, "My Lord, then respite me until the Day
they are resurrected."[ Allah ] said, "So indeed,
you are of those who have been respited until
the Day of the time well-known."[Iblees] said,
"By your might, I will surely mislead them all
except, among them, your chosen
servants." (38:79-83)
be the chosen servant, by restricting yourself from sins.
May Allah swt save us from misleading. Amin

Repentance breeds good deeds, whilst sinning (without repentance) can cause deprivation of obedience altogether. It has been said that committing sins regularly will darken and harden the heart. It may even lead a person to reject Allah completely (Allah forbid) or lead him to commit a bigger sin. There is no recourse for a sinner except to ask Allah for forgiveness and to feel great regret for his actions.

Hakeemul Ummat Hazrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi rahmatullahi alaihe writes in his book Bahishti Zewar that the Holy Prophet sallallahu alaihe wasallam is reported to have said, "There are more than seventy requisites of Imaan, the most important of them being La-ilaha-illallah i.e. the kalimah and the least is to remove an offensive thing from the path like stones, thorns, etc., which cause inconvenience to the passers-by. Modesty and shyness are also important requisites of faith." This hadith means that a complete Muslim is one who possesses all these merits, and if one lacks in any of these, he will be imperfect to that extent.

May ALLAH protect us from committing sins and if we commit then should give us taufeeq to repent...aameen
