Assalamu alaikum ...............

I will try my best 2b serious...suchi i will try...but no wadha!

FOOD? hmmmmmmm dnt we all like the sound of that, but this is sumfing us ppl take for granted and 4get about those in third world countries that are straving. LETS BOYCOTT FOOD? nope! thats not the solution..(that would b mission impossible 4) however, we know of the hadeeth where He Prophet Muhammed (saw) taught his ummah something to protect them from diseases caused by eating and drinking. He said "The son of Adam does not fill any vessel worse than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat a few mouthfuls, to keep him going. If he must do that (fill his stomach), then let him fill one third with food, one third with drink and one third with air." Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (1381), Ibn Maajah (3349); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah (2265).

SubhanAllah look at us, we eat like there is no 2mrw ....and then on top of that we complain of being fat! ....After the united states, Uk is the next in line to be the fatest NATION! yea..... watch out u Chicken tikkas, aloo gobi, parata lovers! ....beware BE AFFAIRD.... remember... some1 will have to pick up ur qabr! (looks at waistline) anyway... inshAllah hope u all can take from this.

Watch me breeze thru the forums.

wasalamu alaikum

aap ka apna WASIM! (lol)

The lack of physical excercise as well as martial training is more of a factor than eating too much.

Most people get very little if any physical excercise. gyms like Al-Badr are making it easier for Muslims to work out. However, most people do not take advantage of these oppoyunities. Just look at any saf lining up for salah, most of those present resemble pregnant women with their blouted stomachs.

We need to fix up.

Some hadeeth about eating.

Cleanse the hand and use your right hand for eating

Hafsah (RA) relates that the messenger of Allah use to employ his right hand for eating, drinking and putting on his clothes, and used his left hands for purposes other than these"
Tirmidhi

Beginning with Bismillah

Aiyshah (RA) relates that the messenger of Allah said, "When any of you starts eating, he should recite the name of Allah the exalted. If he forgets to do so in the beginning he should say: 'Bismillah-e Aw-walahoo wa akhirahu' (In the name of Allah in the beginning and the end"
Tirmidhi

Eat calmly and from side of the dish

Ibn Abbas (RA) relates that the messenger of Allah said, "Blessings come down upon food in its middle, so eat from the sides of the vessel and do not eat from its centre"
Tirmidhi

Finish the meal by licking your fingers and praising Allah

K'ab Ibn Malik (RA) says that he saw the messenger of Allah eating with three fingers and after having finished eating he would lick them
Muslim

When drinking water, drink gradually with intervals

Anas Ibn Malik (RA) says that when the messenger of Allah drank water, he use to breathe three times, i.e. he took water in three breaks, breathing thrice outside the cup"
Bukhari and Muslim

Do not complain and find fault with food

Abu Hurairah (RA) said that the prophet of Allah (SAW) never found fault with any food. If he had the inclination, he would eat it and if he disliked it, he would leave it.
Bukhari and Muslim

There are more blessings in sharing food

Abu Hurairah (RA) relates that the messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "The food of two persons is sufficient for three and the food of three persons is sufficient for four persons"
Bukhari

We should never indulge or waste food

The messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "No human being has ever filled a container worse than his own stomach. The son of Adam needs no more than a few morsels of food to keep his strength, doing so he should consider, that a third is for food, a third for drink and a third for breathing"
Ibn Maajah

Complete the meal with the dua:
"Alhamdu lillahillazhi atamanaa wasaqaana waja alanaa minal Muslimeen"
(Praise be to Allah who fed us and gave us drink and made us Muslim)

salaamz. I have to say i agree with the person who began this discussion. Eating in moderation is Sunnah as we learn from the given Ahaadith. Personally, I find it very irritating when women complain of being overweight, and when they see someone in good shape they will ask, 'why can't we all be like that?'

I think the main problem with our South Asian people is, we eat too much fried and fatty foods, I'm sure if we maintained a balanced healthy diet, we could obtain our ideal weight!!

Dearest brothers and sisters,
As much as I enjoyed reading this thread and identifying with some of the points made, I couldn't help but think that if we as muslims paid as much attention to our deen as we do to our food (selecting, preparing, consuming, comparing etc...) how much stronger would we all be in our faith? Our hearts would be healthier as Allah purifies the heart of the believer, our stomachs and waistlines would be smaller as absorbing knowledge doesn't add pounds, our muscles would be stronger as we would be fighting the temptation of the Shaitan and winning, and our minds would be free from ill thoughts and desires as maybe at last we would understand the sacrafices made by our beloved Prophet Muhammed (SAW) so that today we can freely call ourselves MUSLIMS.
Like I said, I couldn't help but think...

Wa'alaykumasalam wa rahmatullah
JazakiAllahkhayr sister for that point. Indeed if our deen is in check, inevitabley the rest will follow, insha'Allah. [i.e if we were to adhere strongly to the shariah AND the sunnah. JazakiAllahkhayr once again. May Allah grant us the hidaya to hasten towards both the Shariah and the Sunnah.

duas are requested...
Walaykumasalam wa Rahmatullah

Assalamualaikum.w.w

it would be worth noting here, that we will be questioned in the hereafter by Allah ta'ala for our own actions, sins and indulgences, and not anyone elses. It would be of more benefit if we concerned ourselves with our own weaknesses, rather than others.

wassalam
