When an Earthquake strikes

from the teachings of Shaykh Muhammad Saleem Dhorat Sahib

by Muhammad Chothia

"Naturally, at the time of an earthquake, the Might and Power of Allah ta'ala comes to the forefront of one's mind. Huge amounts of earth are shaken, without warning, and often with disastrous consequences.

At such a time, one can easily contemplate upon and realise what the Wrath and Punishment of Allah ta'ala entails.

Therefore, we must use such occasions as opportunities to turn wholeheartedly towards Allah ta'ala and utilise the fear that has been created in our hearts to sincerely repent.

We should acknowledge our sins, preferably after reading two rakah of Salaah and make amends for our sinful past. And we should make a firm resolution to spend the rest of our lives in accordance with the wishes of Allah."

What we need to do

1. Accept that the earthquake was a result of disobedience to Allāh ta‘ālā. Each individual should think: ‘Out of all the disobedient people, I am top of the list. It was because of me that the earthquake struck.’

2. Thereafter, make tawbah and istighfār with sincerity.

3. When the earth quakes, so does the heart. Treat it as an opportunity to rectify your life. Make use of the fear that developed in your heart. Think: ‘I commit many sins; what if the earth had split and swallowed me up? Allāh ta‘ālā has saved me. O Allāh, forgive me.’

4. Give sadaqah. RasÅ«lullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam said:

 sadaqah_hadith.jpg

‘Truly, sadaqah extinguishes the anger of the Rabb and prevents an evil death.’ (At Tirmidhī)

5. Having experienced the disturbing effects of a small earthquake, try to imagine Qiyāmah. What will the mighty earthquakes of Qiyāmah and the Resurrection be like?

It is very serious that the land we live on shook; it means that so much disobedience is taking place on it that Allāh ta‘ālā is displeased. We must turn to Allāh ta‘ālā and do tawbah, istighfār and rectify our lives. We should also have concern in this regard for those around us. May Allāh ta‘ālā make this earthquake a mercy for us and may it prompt us to change our lives for the better. Āmīn.

Our Duas are with everyone impacted by this Earthquake. May Allah Ta'ala assist them all and give us the ability to reflect upon our sins and repent.

Ameen.

It hurts more when we see zaanees, loothees, zaalims etc, enjoy this news. May there enjoyment turn into non-ending miseries.

An Earthquake happens when Allah orders the Angels to pull the veins of the Earth (i.e. Tectonic Plates) the Earth trembles and shakes.

“And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much” [al-Shoora 42:30]

What reply do we have, when ordinary muslim asks, why only on us, when zanees, loothees live peacefully.

Because of many reasons:

  1. When open sins and transgression is commonplace, the punishment of Allah Ta'ala affects everyone the righteous are not spared
  2. The rebellious and the transgressors are given respite to REPENT so you will see them spared
  3. DO NOT go by external appearances. In a Terrorist attack the one going to the Mosque (to pray) and the suicide bomber are both killed are they equal simply because both are dead?
No! On the day of judgement people will be raised according to their intentions.

That won't satisfy the ordinary muslim. And the people who are passing through difficult times.
We can say, Allah will give rewards for all these sufferings.

Staying in a far off country we can't say people in pakistan get wrath of Allah for their misdeeds.

Our actions distances more ordinary the muslims

It's not about satisfaction!

Its a reminder lest we forget!

We all need reminding. We all have issues in our little homes, so we need to be reminded.

Father was shouting at his son to drive safely. Son meets with an accident, in lot of pain, in hospital. Will the father go there at shout at him, reminds him of his words. NO. Immediate requirement is to give a hug to son, a few tears in his eyes. Direct the doctors to do whatever best.

My personal experience. Over zealous khateebs quote those ayah immediately after such incidents; reaction to this by common muslim is "KUFRIYAH KALIMATH", words of kufr. Instead of correction, people are losing their Imaan. Ambulance itself met with an accident.

So these sermons of hard words can wait, we can sermons after a few weeks.

You seem to be talking without any knowledge!

Every publication, Journalist, Alim and military in Pakistan has rushed to aid those impacted. Shadab Khan immediately pledged to donate his Match fees to those affected.

Muslim Charities in Britain are mobilizing RIGHT NOW to offer Aid in Pakistan

Nevertheless, Earthquake is from Allah Ta'ala and people ALSO need to look at the big picture.

Nobody is going to get the injured into Hopistal and ask them to make 2 Rakaat Salah before providing medical care, don't be absurd! Take your nonsense somewhere else...
