“What is the way to gain salvation (from fitnahs)?”

This was the very concise question that Sayyiduna ‘Uqbah bin ‘Aamir (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) posed to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Subhaanallah!

This was the main concern of the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) - how to gain salvation from the fitnahs (evil and mischief) of this world as well as the torments of the Hereafter. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) gave a most concise reply to the concise question.

He said: “Guard your tongue, let your house be sufficient for you and cry over your sins”.

(Tirmizi #2406).

This is an all time remedy for remaining safe from the fitnahs of this world and the next.

jazakallahu khair for posting that hadith on fitnah, I would like to add one more hadith in urdu

Hazrath huzaifah RA farmaate hain: jab tum apne deen ko samajthe aur pahchante honge toe tumhein fitnah koyee nuqsaan naheen pahuncha sakega; fitnah toe uss waqt nuqsan pahunchane wala banega jab Haq aur baatil tum per mushtabah ho jaye aur tum eh bhi faisla na kar pao ke main kis ke peechhe chaloon

Ibn abi shaibah: 37292

Summary of hadith: Hazrath Huzaifah narrates that:
When you have true knowledge of deen then fignah (trials) cannot harm you; fitnah will harm you when you get doubt about what is right (Haq) and what is wrong (baatil). And you cannot decide whom to follow.

Also I quote from Ali Mian Nadvi : summarised: You create vision/insight which can identify a fitnah and also you have vision power to detect the fitnah even if comes wearing gilaaf e Ka'ba (curtains hanging on ka'aba). (message: don't get carried away by sweet or emotional words of a person)
