| The Safety Net
From “Removing the Net” – a transcription of some essential advice given in an informal talk by Hazrat Maulana Yunus Patel ra
The author says regarding the title “Removing the Net”:
It was selected because our beautiful religion and Shariah offers us a safety net with its various injunctions, teachings and prohibitions. Unfortunately, we have breached and disregarded many of those laws. Having, ourselves, removed the teachings of Deen from our lives, we find ourselves in deep waters, or having to face vicious “shark” attacks from all quarters – nafs, shaytaan and various other evil elements prevalent in society.
After relating stories about how family units are destroyed due to disregarding the Sahriah laws as in the case of a man who trusts his friend so much that he allows him free access into his home and allows him to become comfortable with his wife and children and when eventually his wife and friend end up in the inevitable situation he says, ““My best friend took my wife away.”
Shaykh Mawlana Yunus Patel says,
Many a time, the contention is: “Be broadminded.”
I also say: ‘Be broadminded… But you don’t have to open the mind so broadly that your brains fall off.’
