Communicating with Spirits through Séances [1]

What is the Islamic position with respect to bringing back the spirits of the dead? When one studies the texts related to this point, he will conclude with certainty that such an act is absolutely impossible. The souls of the dead may be divided into the following two categories:

(a) Favoured souls (those of pious believers) and

(b) Punished souls (those of sinful believers and disbelievers).

The souls of the second group are confined to places of punishment and are too preoccupied with the torments of the grave to be able to meet or visit with each other. However, the blessed and favoured souls of the pious believers are free to roam and meet.....
