Du'aa' on Laylatul-Qadr (The Night of Decree)

posted by Seifeddine-M on 7th June 2018 - 0 comments
During this blessed night, when the angels descend down to earth with the angel Jibreel عليه السلام, and when the earth is overwhelmed with peace and serenity until the break of dawn, and when the doors of Paradise are opened, the worshipper is encouraged to turn to Allaah سبحانه و تعالى, and to ask of his needs for this world and the Hereafter.  As Allaah سبحانه و تعالى says,

Du'aa' When Fasting is Not Rejected

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:  ثلاث دعوات لا ترد: دعوة الوالد، ودعوة الصائم، ودعوة المسافر  "Three du'aa's are never rejected:  1) The du'aa' of the father,  2) The du'aa' of the one fasting,

Du'aa' During Ramadaan

posted by Seifeddine-M on 25th May 2018 - 0 comments
The month of Ramadaan is a blessed month, during which the Qur'aan was revealed, and the process of inspiration started upon the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. Therefore, the du'a of Ramadaan is a blessed du'aa', and this can be inferred from the Prophet's hadeeth صلى الله عليه وسلم:  إِذَا دَخَلَ رَمَضَانُ فُتِّحَتْ أَبْوَابُ الجَنَّةِ ، وَغُلِّقَتْ أَبْوَابُ جَهَنَّمَ ، وَسُلْسِلَتِ الشَّيَاطِينُ  "When Ramadaan comes, the Doors of Paradise are opened, and the Doors of Hell are closed, and the Shayaateen are chained up."   So it can be inferred from this hadeeth that du'aa' during Ramadaan has a greater chance of being accepted, as the Gates of Paradise and Mercy are opened. The Ruling Concerning One who Does Not Fast Ramadaan Without a Valid Excuse

posted by Seifeddine-M on 15th May 2018 - 0 comments
If a person denies the obligation of the fast, he becomes a disbeliever. Its obligatory status is confirmed in the Qur'aan and numerous ahaadeeth of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم.  As for the one who believes in the fast but does not fast, there is a hadeeth which states,  عرى الإسلام وقواعد الدين ثلاثة عليهن أسس الإسلام من ترك واحدة منهن فهو بها كافر حلال الدم : شهادة أن لا إله إلا الله والصلاة المكتوبة وصوم رمضان  "The bare essence of Islaam and the basics, upon which Islaam has been established, are three. Whoever leaves one of them becomes an unbeliever and his blood may legally be spilled. [These acts are:] Testifying that there is no God except Allaah, the obligatory prayers and the fast of Ramadhaan."  This hadeeth was recorded by Abu Ya'la and ad-Dailami. Some scholars have called it hasan. However, the correct view seems to be that of Shaykh al-Albaani رحمه الله, that the hadeeth is weak. But, most likely, it seems that it is a statement of the Companion ibn 'Abbaas رضي الله عنهما and not that of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

Fasting the Month of Ramadaan

Islaam is Built Upon Five On the authority of Abu 'Abdur-Rahmaan 'Abdullaah, the son of 'Umar ibn al-Khattaab رضي الله عنهما who said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم say: "Islaam is built upon five [pillars ]: testifying that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah, establishing the prayers, giving the zakaat, making the pilgrimage to the House and fasting the month of Ramadhaan."   The Meaning of Siyaam Linguistically, siyaam means to abstain from something, such as abstaining from speaking. In the sharee'ah, it is a direct reference to abstaining from food, drink and sexual intercourse during the days of the month of Ramadhaan. This practice is one of the pillars of Islaam, as noted in this hadeeth.

The Superiority of Lailat-ul-Qadr (the Night of Decree)

posted by Seifeddine-M on 27th August 2010 - 0 comments
Allah, the Exalted, says: "Verily, We have sent it (this Qur'an) down in the Night of Al-Qadr (Decree). And what will make you know what the Night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is? The Night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e., worshipping Allah in that night is better than worshipping Him a thousand months, i.e., 83 years and 4 months). Therein descend the angels and the Ruh [Jibril (Gabriel)] by Allah's Permission with all Decrees. (All that night), there is peace (and goodness from Allah to His believing slaves) until the appearance of dawn.'' (97:1-5) "We sent it (this Qur'an) down on a blessed night [(i.e., the Night of Al-Qadr, Surah No:97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments (i.e., the matters of deaths, births, provisions, and calamities for the whole (coming) year as decreed by Allah). As a Command (or this Qur'an or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers). (As) a Mercy from your Rubb, Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.'' (44:3-6) Abu Hurairah (radiallahu anh) reported: The Prophet (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, "Whosoever performs Qiyam during Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), with Faith and being hopeful of Allah's reward, will have his former sins forgiven.'' [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. `Aishah (radiallahu anha) reported: The Messenger of Allah (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to seclude himself (in the mosque) during the last ten nights of Ramadan. He would say, "Search for Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree) in the last ten nights of Ramadan.''

I`tikaf (Seclusion in the Mosque) in the Month of Ramadan

posted by Seifeddine-M on 27th August 2010 - 0 comments
Ibn `Umar (radiallahu anhuma) reported: The Messenger of Allah (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to observe I`tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan.
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

'Aishah (radiallahu anha) reported: The Prophet (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to engage himself in I`tikaf (seclusion for prayers) in the mosque during the last ten nights of Ramadan till he passed away; thereafter, his wives followed this practice after him.
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Abu Hurairah (radiallahu anh) reported: The Prophet (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to observe I`tikaf every year (during Ramadan) for ten days; in the year in which he passed away, he observed I`tikaf for twenty days.
[Al-Bukhari].

I`tikaf helps to enhance one's spiritual growth and to strive hard to worship Allah better as there is nothing to distract one's attention from this noble pursuit.
