A Thief Is Apprehended
A peacock was stolen from Imam Abu Hanifah's رحمه الله neighbourhood. The owner came and complained to him.
Imam Abu Hanifah رحمه الله advised, "Remain silent about the matter and do not discuss it further with anybody."
The next morning, Imam Abu Hanifah رحمه الله went to the Masjid and announced, "Is that person not ashamed who steals a peacock from my neighbour and then arrives to perform salaah, while the feathers are still visible on his body?"
The man who had stolen the peacock heard the announcement and began to rub his hand over his head.
Imam Abu Hanifah رحمه الله noticed him and said, "Please return the peacock!"
The man realised that he had been caught out and promply returned it to the owner.
