Allah is the only answer to everything...

posted by Mahd-ul-Huda on 22nd September 2011 - 1 comment
A dedication to my first Shaykh, Hazrat Maulana Yunus Patel Saahib (rahmatullahi 'alayh) I am in a room full of people, surrounded by loved ones, but why do I still feel so alone, so desolate and forlorn? Despite having everything I could ask for and more, I feel a void, an emptiness. Something seems amiss. I search for something, anything, that will fill that void, and relieve me of the loneliness I strongly feel. Where do I find that missing piece that will make me feel complete?... I wish for a companionship that is always there, never gone. I want to feel contentment, I want to feel ease, I want to feel loved, but no matter where I look, I find nothing more than a temporary satisfaction that wanes away within no time. The thought dawns on me, could it be that I am looking in all the wrong places? Am I too occupied in looking for contentment in the temporary things of the world, and mortal relationships, that I am missing out on the essence of it? Then I came across this beautiful saying of the great mystic and leader, Umar ibn Abdul-Azeez (rahmatullahi 'alayh):

THE TRUE WEALTH OF MADINA MUNAWWARAH

posted by Mahd-ul-Huda on 13th September 2011 - 0 comments
By Hazrat Maulana Yunus Patel Saheb (رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ) Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem My respected Shaykh, Hazrat Maulana Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar Saheb (Daamat Barakaatuhum), has mentioned, in his poetry, that our value is dependent on our Nisbat with Madina Munawwarah. When anything is purchased and brought from Madina Munawwarah, then a lover of Nabi (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam) will naturally appreciate and value it – no matter how small or how cheap. Why? …Because it has a connection with the city of the Beloved (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam). It has been touched by the air of Madina Shareef, or it has been produced from the blessed land of Madina Shareef - and this is what has made it special. The residents of Madina Shareef are the neighbours of Rasulullah (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and they are the envy of the heavens, because they have such extreme physical closeness to Nabi (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam). They are the envy of all of us as well – for we too desire the honour of being in such proximity to Nabi (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam) at all times.

How much has your tank leaked?

posted by Mahd-ul-Huda on 10th September 2011 - 0 comments
Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuh. It's just been 10 days since Eid and its seems like an age since we experienced the endless Mercy, Blessings and Noor (divine light) of Allah descending upon us. Time for some introspection.... How did all that Noor disappear so quickly?? And how do we preserve whatever is left of it? Shakyh Zulfiqar Ahmed Naqshbandi (madda-zhilluhim) gives a beautiful example: The blessed month of Ramadhan filled out lives with Noor just like a tank is filled with water. However if a tank has many holes, all the water will leak out, and amount of leakage will differ according to the size of the holes. In a similar manner the holes of our sins cause all the noor to drain out of our lives. No matter how much we pour from above, the leakages do not allow for us to retain the Noor, Mercy and Blessings. Whereas the Awliyaa of Allah, are free of such leakages and are able to retain it all. That is why their entire life is like Ramadhan, while we go back to our normal ways shortly after Eid. However its never too late. We can still try and save whatever we have left of it, by mending the holes inshaAllah. What can we weaklings do to retain as much of the Noor as possible?

What if we woke up today with only the things we thanked Allah for yesterday?

posted by Mahd-ul-Huda on 8th September 2011 - 0 comments
Assalamu Alaikum dear readers... Been a while since I wrote something on here. One of my Ramadhan resolutions has been to inshaAllah take the the time to update my blog more often and share my thoughts with you... Some weeks a go I came across a very thought-provoking question... What if we woke up today with only the things we thanked Allah for yesterday? Would we even be living? Do we thank Allah for the air we breathe, the ability to breathe, every organ in our body that functions perfectly, every limb we possess that has been fashioned in the most perfect manner, the food we eat, the water we drink, the roof over our heads, the clothes we wear, the warm blankets in winter, the fans or AC in summer, the cars we drive, the parents, siblings, spouses, children and family we have....and it is a never-ending list.

Be Grateful

posted by Mahd-ul-Huda on 8th September 2011 - 0 comments
Am I truly grateful for each breath that I take, For each and every moment that I am awake? Do I thank Allah for my restful sleep, And for the dreams that cause me to weep? Am I honestly thankful to the Almighty One, For the early morning mist, the bright, rising sun? During Fajr prayer, I use my soft prayer mat, As Allah’s servant, do I appreciate that?

Break your fast a few minutes early?

posted by Mahd-ul-Huda on 2nd August 2011 - 0 comments
by Hazrat Maulana Yunus Patel Saheb (rahmatullahi 'alayh) For many years, without fail, I have been giving an example in the month of Ramadaan, that at the end of a very, very hot and long day of Summer, a person is sitting at the dastarkhaan (table cloth), close to the time of Iftaar, waiting patiently to open his fast. There is just 3 minutes left for the setting of the sun when he is told: "Eat! .. , What difference will it make if you break your fast now? What is another 2 or 3 minutes? ... You have already stayed away from food and drink for almost 15 -~ 16 hours." Even if this happens to be the weakest Muslim, in respect to obeying Allah Ta'ala, he will respond: "It is the ruling of the Qur'aan and the Ahadith that I break my fast after the setting of the sun and not before that time. It is the command of Allah Ta'ala and I cannot disobey Him." The weakest person's Imaan becomes so strong at this stage of his fast, that he will not break his fast. He will refuse to break his fast, even if the world's great personalities have to say so. So we should question ourselves and also answer truthfully: Is it not the Hukm, the Command of that same Allah, to perform Salaah five times a day and for the men, in the Musijd, in Jamaat as far as possible? Is it not the Command of that same Allah to correctly discharge our Zakaah, perform Haj, treat our parents with love and respect, be faithful to our wives and treat them with compassion and vice versa for the wives, be honest in our business dealings and be kind and just to those under our authority?

The Closing Chapter

posted by Mahd-ul-Huda on 2nd August 2011 - 0 comments
The Closing of a Chapter A brief biography of Moulana Yunus Patel rahimahullah From various sources including Jamiat Fordsburg, Darul Ihsan, Darul Iftaa (Mufti E Desai), etc. The passing away of Hazrat Moulana Yunus Patel rahimahullah in the precincts of the Ka’bah in Makkah Mukarramah on 12 July 2011 heralds the closing of a unique chapter in the history of Islam in South Africa. An Aalim who had a hand in most of the different works of Islam in the country at some point or the other, Moulana Yunus Patel rahimahullah is acknowledged by Muslims across the spectrum in South Africa as a great personality. This write-up merely serves to highlight a few aspects from his life and cannot do justice to the many facets of half a century of unparalleled service to Islam. There could be mistakes in the facts written here and ask that any corrections be forwarded to us. Many facts are missing and will be made public as and when they come to light. Moulana was born in 1946 in Stanger, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. He did his primary schooling and, in 1962 as a youngster he volunteered to be in the first Tabligh Jamaat with Haji Bhai Padia rahimahullah in Grey Street Musjid, Durban. He used to go in the initial Tabligh Jamaats that used to work in South Africa.

Five Reasons why Allah uses problems

posted by Mahd-ul-Huda on 31st May 2011 - 0 comments
The problems you face will either defeat you or develop you - depending on how you respond to them. Unfortunately, most people fail to see how Allah wants to use problems for good in their lives. They react foolishly and resent their problems rather than pausing to consider what benefit they might bring. Here are five ways Allah wants to use the problems in your life: [sub]1. Allah uses problems to DIRECT you. Sometimes God must light a fire under you to get you moving. Problems often point us in a new direction and motivate us to change. Is God trying to get your attention? "Sometimes it takes a painful situation to make us change our ways." [sub]2. Allah uses problems to INSPECT you. People are like tea bags.if you want to know what's inside them, just drop them into hot ever water! Has God tested your faith with a problem What do problems reveal about you? "When you have many kinds of troubles, you should be full of joy, because you know that these troubles test your faith, and this will give you patience." [sub]3. Allah uses problems to CORRECT you. Some lessons we learn only through pain and failure. It's likely that as a child your parents told you not to touch a hot stove.. But you probably learned by being burned. Sometimes we only learn the value of something. health, money, a relationship.. .. by losing it. "It was the best thing that could have happened to me, for it taught me to pay attention to your laws."

An Easy Prescription for Reformation

posted by Mahd-ul-Huda on 23rd September 2010 - 0 comments
Are you striving to reform yourself, and find that no matter how hard you try, you keep on faltering? Do not despair fellow seeker of Allah! Here is a small prescription that gave a lot of hope to my helpless heart. Remember, Allah is aware of your desire (talab) to reform, and Allah will surely not let it go in vain, for our Allah is the Most Kind, the Most Loving, the Most Appreciative. If your clothes are stained on a small spot, you won't let it get completely soiled just because of that small spot. You will wash it off and try to prevent it from getting dirty again. Even if they become dirty several times, you won't just dispose of it, but you will wash it repeatedly. The same applies to our hearts and souls. If they are stained with the filth of sin and disobedience, we should not let go, but rather rinse and cleanse them as many times as they become dirty. This is a very easy way of pleasing our Creator, especially for weak people like ourselves. Allah loves those who turn to Him in repentance. And Allah never tires of accepting the repentance of the sincere ones. May Allah forgive us all and be pleased with us and grant us steadfastness in our endeavor to find His love and please Him. Ameen. From the discourses of Hakeem-ul-Ummat, Hazrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (rahimahumullah) A person should daily seek pardon for his transgressions, admit his inadequacy and futility verbally, and supplicate for his reformation. Do this for only ten minutes daily. You do not have to drink any medicine, but at the same time do not discard the prevention. Merely use this brief treatment at the time of sleeping. You will witness that within a few days, you will acquire aid from the unseen, to the extent that your courage and determination will increase, you will not incur any difficulty , and hardships will not distress you. In short, you will attain such unseen assistance that is inconceivable. Supplicate as follows: "O Allah, I am a very sinful servant of yours. I intend to ovey You but my intentions cannot achieve anything. Everything can occur with You wish. I desire to be reformed but do not have the courage. My reformation (islaah) is in Your control. O Allah, I am extremely unworthy, evil, and sinful. I am helpless. You assist me. My heart is feeble. I do not have strength to refrain from sin. You grant me the fortitude. I do not have any means of salvation. You create the means of my salvation from the unseen. O Allah, whatever sins I have committed till now, forgive them with Your mercy. I do not claim that I will never commit them again. I know that I will perpetrate them in future but I will seek forgiveness for them."
