What if we woke up today with only the things we thanked Allah for yesterday?

Assalamu Alaikum dear readers...

Been a while since I wrote something on here. One of my Ramadhan resolutions has been to inshaAllah take the the time to update my blog more often and share my thoughts with you...

Some weeks a go I came across a very thought-provoking question...

What if we woke up today with only the things we thanked Allah for yesterday?

Would we even be living? Do we thank Allah for the air we breathe, the ability to breathe, every organ in our body that functions perfectly, every limb we possess that has been fashioned in the most perfect manner, the food we eat, the water we drink, the roof over our heads, the clothes we wear, the warm blankets in winter, the fans or AC in summer, the cars we drive, the parents, siblings, spouses, children and family we have....and it is a never-ending list.

"And even if you attempt to count the favours of Allah on you, you will be unable to encompass them" (Al-Quraan)

SUBHANALLAH WALHAMDULILLAH WA LA-ILAHA-ILALLAH WALLAHU-AKBAR!

Too often we focus on what we don't have and feel sorry for ourselves, rather than being thankful for what we do. How little we ponder over what we do have, and how much we ponder over what we don't have!

Hazrat Shah Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar Saahib (db) advises, that one of the quickest ways to gain the closeness of Allah, is to take ten minutes daily just to count all of Allah's favours on you, and thank Allah for each one. You would think that's easy but when you actually try, then for the first few times you will be lost for things to thank for after a couple of minutes. Because there are so many of Allah's favours on us that we take for granted and don't even consider as bounties. We tend to think they fall under birth rights. Whereas in reality we deserve nothing of what Allah blesses us with. What did we do to be blessed with existence? What did we do deserve the bounty of faith, the bounty of being from the Ummah of the Master of Mankind, the Leader of the Messengers, the beloved of Allah, Muhammad (sallallahu-'alayhi-wasallam)? We constantly use things we have and faculties we possess to disobey the very Allah who gave them to us. If it was any other Allah besides the Most Tolerant and Merciful Allah, he would long ago snatched away our eyes, our ears, our hands and everything we have for the abuse we commit and the ingratitude we show. Subhanallah!

Let us be grateful today, while we can, and what's more is it is Allah's policy that gratitude brings about increase in a bounty. The more thankfulness and appreciation we show for any ni'mah, the more Allah will bless us of it inshaAllah.

Wassalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuh.
